I can't get my head wrapped around what's been happening to me... Never had such a horrible depression. My psychiatrist says I'm 'sick' - I sometimes feel that way (when I feel there's no point in even getting up in the morning). But it's hard to understand... I'm not in a wheelchair. Somehow part of me blames myself for being this way right now...

Depression really is debilitating whether or not you call it an illness.

It is not your fault!

I've never been clinically depressed, by I live with someone who was for many years...

There is no doubt in my mind that it's a true illness. It wasn't his fault. He had control over whether he accepted treatment for it, but I would never blame him for being depressed in the first place.

My heart goes out to all who struggle with it. I know that it's painful, but there IS hope and help Is depression really an illness?

Oh yes. I would definatly say its an illness. After all its something you cant cotrol. I suffer from this also...and if people could control it they would. nobody wants to be sad. I just want to tell you it will be okay in the end and that your not alone. ((((((ouch))))))) Is depression really an illness?

Thanks... I just feel so lost sometimes, and part of me thinks I can somehow control it. But, you're right - if I could, I wouldn't choose to be always miserable. I wouldn't choose to isolate myself... I just find it so hard to wrap my head around. Even the fact that I NEED to see a psychiatrist seems scary to me. The fact that I have been so suicidal.

Hello Ouch.
I hope things get better for you soon. I hope you stay in contact with your therapist and let the therapist know how you are doing so that you can get the treatment you need at this time. Have you considered a case manager? A case manager can help in many ways to keep the stress off of persons with mental health disorders. A case manager can help take care of bills, rent, and buy groceries and take care of things while you are recuperating. You will have to ask your therapist for a case manager so your therapist can set you up with the case manager. Many people have done really well once a case manager steps in to lighten the load to allow someone to get themselves stable without all of the outside deterrants to becoming stable. I hope you feel better soon, and things work out better for you in the future. take care of yourself. Soidhonia

For awhile, there was a group of psychiatric nurses who were coming over to encourage me to do things. I don't feel like I need them right now, and I really want to go back to work - hoping to start again on the 19th - nervous - it's been 2months!
