Im 18 years old i have had depression for almost 2 years now , i lost all contact with my friends since they all left the country when they graduated last year.
I cant study or focus on school i can feel my life sliping away day by day and its a horribel feeling but i just cant seem to do anything about it. In my country if i tell my parents i have depression i will get beaten up and told to man up because depression doesnt exist, there is no place for dealing with it in here and no meds available , i simply lay in my bed with no one to talk too about it and waste my life day by day my childhood and my teenage years were soent laying in my bed hoping for some miracle to get me out of this hell hole so i can start living my life the way i want it to be. Is there any possiblity for me to overcome this and move on with my life , focus on my senior year and leave? I have been all over the internet for past 2 months and i cant seem to find anyway to help my self with school my only option is to end my depression so i can achieve my goal. |

In a way, you're in luck because the non-med treatments for depression work better than the meds. I would suggest that you try everything that's good for depression and that's healthy for you anyway. Exercise, meditation, improving your diet are all probably quite doable for you. For diet/supplements information I would suggest Mark Hyman and Andrew Weil on the internet as sources. I would suggest trying "SNAP CLUB" http://forums.psychcentral.com/depre...n-escaped.html These things have a very good chance of working. Once you start to feel better, it's good to socialize and be with healthy friends and family. My other suggestion is that even if depression is a taboo subject, it could be a good idea to get a medical exam if you have access to a Medical Doctor. Sometimes purely medical issues or specific vitamin deficiencies can cause depression. Isn't the internet great? ![]() |

You are in a very difficult position as a support network is a crucial part of it. I would suggest reading a lot and posting on this forum or similar ones. Use online support groups if that is all that is available. If you can find friends in real life who understand than do so.
I would suggest teaching yourself CBT Journaling Taking up meditation and mindfulness Diet, Exercise If you can't get meds look into supplements like fish oil, vitamin D, Melatonin, 5HTP, St. Johns Wort, L Methylfolate, B vitamins, L Tryptophan I know how hard it is if you can't get out of bed. Start with what you can do. In-Depth: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy | Psych Central CBT Therapy Worksheets & Self-Help | Psychology Tools How Does Mindfulness Reduce Depression? That's pretty tough! If it's chemical based.... there may be no other option than for meds, to make it go away.. if its situational tho, it's likely that it can get better with out the meds.
Do you have any access to herbs or anything where you live? ![]() EDIT: Is there a way to try and apply for internship in a different country through your school? usually the last few years are when they do that for people.

i know it will be difficult but look for your strengths and focus on them. look for the things that make you feel good. any little thing that makes you feel good and do those things. the more things you do that make you feel positive the more you can create positive cycles in your life. when you do good, you feel good.
