It is certainly true that many people suffer in life. I don't know if I can agree that we were meant to. I think everyone suffers but why do some much more than others....I dunno.

I do not believe is fate, destiny or that sort of thing.
To me, the fact that many people suffer is due to so many of us being ignorant, uncaring, mistaken, clumsy or callous. There are so many unintended sufferings, and many that were caused by the best of intentions.
I think that we are learning more about how people work, and so less of the unintended suffering will occur, but it isn't changing overnight, and many of us have to limp through life.
I believe we don't have to do this alone. I also believe we can be stronger than we rthink.

I'm with Arha. No one is meant to suffer. No one is meant to be hurt. Yes, there is suffering in the world. But it's only when no one else steps up to help.

Sadly that is to common.

When will this pain end? Why can't I be normal and be able to express my emotions in a mentally stable manner? I'm literally disconnected from almost the entire teenage female gender. It has been like this for 2 years.

Some people suffer due to external factors beyond their control, while others suffer due to internal factors, stress, trauma, ill health. I think that some people are more vulnerable, at risk of suffering than others due to their disadvantaged background, environment, lifestyle, and character, sensitivity. You may hear people say that circumstances don't matter only little amount compared to our internal dialogue, circumstances people dont make us suffer, its not what others say or do to you that matters, its how you deal with that, most of human suffering is based on our own thoughts, attitude and responses to things, not others fault. Its easier to make individuals feel responsible for their own issues. But we are interconnected, interdependent, and we influence and have responsibility in how we are towards ourselves and each other with our judgements, expectations, principles, approaches, and behaviours for better or worse. People don't always have freedom to choose what, how they want to be, and to meet their own interests and needs. People do suffer without choice.

Hi,
I think we need to avoid every idea about fate, etc. It gives us the false impression that nothing is under our control and that there is nothing we can do to change our fate because "it has been written". But, in fact, suffering is part of the human experience, and also it is a fact that it is not "equally distributed" among human beings.

Somethings we can change but that is limited and within our own selves and lives not others. We can't change the world but we can change how we perceive and respond/deal with things in it. We have to accept when we don't have control over what happens to us, and certain things that we can't change.

Yes, I agree. Some people are meant to suffer and I believe I'm one of them. After my father killed himself a few years ago I realized that people like me are likely genetically predisposed to see and feel the darker side of life and it has a way of compounding and reinforcing itself especially as you get older and your time and opportunities narrow. I'm not convinced that you can really end the suffering but you can minimize it and live with the pain if you try. It helps to have something to live for so always have someone or something to take care of and you will find the strength to fight. It also helps to collaborate and build relationships/friendships/support networks and even forums like this (thanks psychcentral!).

You could say you're damned if you let it ruin your life. But don't be so deterministic if you want to fight and change what's going on in your head. Every moment is a gift and you only lose this fight if you give up.

Yes it was. I honestly miss talking to girls I like. It has been so long since I did it. I feel so messed up. I just want the pain to stop.
