The newest stuff that I post is from a health watch phamplet that I got from the drug store.
<font color=red>Types of Depression.</font color=red> Not all are alike the doctors have identified six different types of depression <font color=blue>~Mild Depression~</font color=blue> This is a chronic condition that involves long-term depressed mood, poor self-esteem and mild forms of major depression (sleep problems, appeitite changes, lack of energy, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, suicidal thoughts). The medical name for mild depression is dysthymia and it can affect some people with no apparent cause <font color=purple>~Major Depression~</font color=purple> This is a serious depression that can cause such deep despair and hopelessness that the person loses interest in life and is unable to feel pleasure or become sexually aroused. In some cases, the person is unable to get out of bed or eat for several days at a time. Major depression can result in weight loss or gain, sleep disturbances (sleeping far too much, or not sleeping at all), inability to make a decision, and feelings of anxiety, irritability or agitation. Major depression causes almost unbearable misery. It is estimated that within five years of suffering major depression, one-quarter of sufferers kill themselves. Any talk of suicide should be taken very seriously and the person's doctor should be told immediately <font color=blue>~Bipolar Depression~</font color=blue> This condition-which is also known as manic depression, alternates periods of major depression with times of high energy and wildly unrealistic expectations. <font color=purple>~Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)~</font color=purple> As the name suggests, SAD is related to the seasons-specifically fall and winter. People with SAD become depressed each autumn and can't function normally until spring. They are usually tired and crave extra sleep and they feel anxious and hopeless. They often want sweets and it is not unusual for them to put on a good deal of extra weight. Fortunatley, bright-light treatment (called photo-therapy) or light therapy is very helpful for most paitents. A brief period each day from October to April spent under special lights (light boxes) can relieve symptoms for most sufferers. <font color=blue>~Post-partum Depression~</font color=blue> About two-thirds of new mothers experience the 'baby blues', a mild sadness and anxiety that follows the birth of their baby. But about 10% to 15% of new mothers suffer from a more serious from of condition called post-partum depression. Symptoms usually appear within a few months of the baby's birth and include deep sadness, frequent crying, inability to sleep, lethargy and irritability. <font color=purple>~Atypical Depression~</font color=purple> "Atypical Depression" means 'unusual', and depression that doesn't follow the usual patterns is called atypical depression. <font color=red>~Sundance~</font color=red> <font color=blue>"Never react emotionally to criticism. I have bi polar depression, only my Pdoc refers to my depressive phase as that of the atypical type

I myself suffer from Clincal Depression as well as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

my main diagnosis is Major Depression... there are other things too but this is the main diagnosis...

Hello sundance,
Well, i have them almost all... The SAD affects me for the worse, you know, living in Canada... My meds. works well (Effexor), but still, in winter, it does'nt seem to be as effective. (effective, effexor, maybe same etymology?) Take care, sundance Starbuck Born in 1963 of French mom and Canadian dad. Studied a lot (Majors in History, Theology, M.A. in Sociology).

Do you do light therapy (light box) in the winter months? SAD's is hard to deal with, it usually stays like the abouve information states in October to APril, I think gone for the summer I hope, it'll hit be at the end of September though, I hope I can get under my light box next year, couldn't sit under it for more then a minute , i was too sensitive to it , I was even senstive to some meds as well. Thank you sundance. Not sure where I fit in there but I'm hoping its the mild one. My doctor expects that it won't last more than a year or so. Sounds like a very long time to me.

I wish i could say that my depression will left after a year. If that happens then you are a lucky one.
I've been dealing with depression since I was diagnosed with it at the age of 16, right now it's in remission.
