I am curious of how other's feel about the "afterlife". If you believe there is one or isn't.
I am a believer that we are living in the midst of going to a wonderful, fullfilling afterlife or come back until we get it right...what do you think?

I can't say for sure but there is zero evidence to support a belief in an afterlife. I'm more concerned with the life we know is real.

It is the exact same reason I've not done the same. I think there is a lot of beauty in this world but look forward when the day comes that I say "sayonora"! But I'll wait for my day WILL come

No, when you are dead they throw you in a furnace and there is an end of the matter. The reason I have not offed myself is that it would make too many people too happy!

But what about those who have "died" and come back and in detail described their journey into the "afterlife"? That is evidence, no? No one can deny that these people didn't die on either the operating table or some kind of an accident. To me, that's proof enough that for however long I must stay here, that's how long it will be before I get that eternal rest.

And who would that be? If anyone has proven they have lived before its somehow escaped my knowledge. And believe me, I'd love for it to be true.

A lot of people get great comfort in believing there is something after we die. I would love to see my mother and brother again.

As for today, you cannot physically "prove" an afterlife. I suppose it is not something you can see or touch or look at under a microscope. But in my mind that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It's one of those things you have to take on faith. I say if this life is all we have then we are in bad shape.

I would too although I'd probably end up as someone's rug or an ingredient in some fool's aphrodisiac.

Is that an invitation to a discussion? Because faith is just a word for belief without proof or even evidence. And I don't begrudge you your beliefs. I know people who are firmly convinced that beings from other planets live among us.

There actually is a comprehensive study on near death experiences where people were recesitated and describe very accurately what happened in the operating room three minutes after they were brain dead.

Personally I believe in an after life, but not because of any science. My own belief and experience.

They say energy never dies. It has to go somewhere, but nobody knows where. I don't believe in heaven or hell. I'm an atheist. Just look at how massive the Universe is...it goes on forever.

Nice...I'd opened a similar thread not too long ago.

As I said in my thread, I believe in a linear continuum of self. Kind of a recycling of consciousness with no physical carryover.

I think science is making the possibility of afterlife more likely. Whatever energy we are, we can only access the world as our senses allow. And we have equipment that's finding awesome stuff that makes the world that much more mind blowing.

I too believe because of my own faith, Zinco. I can attest to the fact that one can die on the OT and then be brought back, I'm one who has had that experience. Although, I only felt like I was "floating" above myself then out and down the hallway with the doctor who was speaking with my mother and boyfriend, then I heard "CODE BLUE" and the doc excused himself and ran d own the hall...that's when I felt that "slam" back into my body. I spoke to my doctor about this and he finally did confess that I did infact have failure and had to be brought back, so yes, there is proof and not just by my own experience, but rather, but many who have had the same exact expierence. (that latter on this post is for George who finds it hard to believe in the "afterlife").

I believe in an afterlife for many reasons. I believe we are all made up of energy and energy cannot just disappear. This is a law of physics. Also, we know that there must be other dimensions to the world than what we can sense here on Earth.

I also believe I am somewhat sensitive to spirit energies. I have seen and felt some crazy stuff! There is currently no science to back me up on this one, but that doesn't mean there won't be one day!

A chemical called DMT causes that... but I realize that that alone doesn't prove "no, an afterlife must not be real then."

To answer your original question, I don't believe in a heaven or hell.

Nope, nay, net, nein, lo.

Why would I want to be judged again for heaven or hell when I'm already judged for other things in life?

I'm judged for my looks, behavior, skills, education, beliefs especially, and later on, probably my social class.

The fact between heaven and hell:

I mean if I were to go to heaven, would I be any happier than I am on Earth? What makes heaven any greater than what makes us happy on Earth?

Hell? How can it be any worse than it already is on Earth? There are so many ways to be tortured that nothing new would even harm us.

I'll tell you what's hell for me.

-Drinking out of Gatorade bottle that contained draino when I was at the age of 4. (boy was THAT refreshing...)
-Having to go to the hospital afterwards to have my esophagus removed and replaced with a piece of my intestine.
-Following several other procedures to deal with issue of scar tissue preventing me from swallowing any liquids and foods. (couldn't even swallow my own saliva).
-Being bullied because I couldn't fit in with other children as I moved to a different school every year.
-Suffered a fear of needles and hospitals before my last surgery (later helped with therapy).
-Had to deal with my abusive, traumatized mother who took out her anger on me all the time (I moved away from her, and now I am slowly getting closer with her than before).
-Now I'm dealing with mood swings and anxiety (still having to deal with bouts of depression from time to time, now stepping out of my comfort zone and away from low self esteem slowly, taking baby steps, one at a time).

You know what my heaven would be? Living a healthy life, free from worry, fear, doing what I have always dreamed of doing, reaching things that I could achieve.

You know what I want after I die?

I want some rest. Has anyone ever heard of RIP? I would like that. Just a never ending sleep without dreams. I'm tired of working to live, so all I want to do is have a good night's sleep without ever waking up...EVER

That's amazing.

Many doctors and nurses can tell some stories but they often don't talk about it.

That's true. A law a physics and chemistry says that matter/energy (two sides of the same coin) can neither be created or destroyed, only change forms.

I 100% believe you.

My every faith in everything I believed in has been shattered recently...

That being stated, from the time I was 15 until a few months ago(over 21 years) I knew for a fact there was something beyond this existence. I drowned when I was 15. Like dead, and was given the choice to go or stay, I guess I made the choice stay. It was peaceful, no choking or splashing around, so I definitely wasn't physically present or something.

But now with every other thing that I believed in having been shattered, I think maybe I'm full of **** and I hallucinated that or something.

Either way, I wish I hadn't made the choice to come back. If there is reincarnation I'm going to be totally pissed. Start "doing the deed" as soon as I'm old enough to realize what is going on. If there is a heaven and hell, I'd prefer hell, already there. I wouldn't take what heaven would have to offer. I'd just like to lie down and never see another soul again.
