I'm 17 years old and female. I go through these things almost every day:
Physical symptoms: Sore throat Nausea (LOTS) Stomach troubles (LOTS) Digestive troubles (LOTS) Woozy head feeling Off balance Hard to breathe at times Headache Heartburn-ish type stuff every once in a while "Slippery" joints Weight loss Cracked, bleeding hands (from washing so much to keep germs away) Emotional/Mental Symptoms: Anxiety Worry about getting sick (extreme emetephobia) Anger Rage Terrified (back to emetephobia) Racing thoughts Hearing little voices and sounds when I get to max worry Spacing out Not in reality Anxiety Social withdrawal Panick Fear. I have these things at least SOME point in the week. I can't do anything I enjoy anymore because I either get sore throats, woozy head feelings or nausea, or just can't be entertained with it anymore. But mostly the physical ailment part. It is obvious there is some GAD in there but what about the physical parts?? The only reason I worry is when I don't feel good, and the not feeling good always comes first. Usually. What do I do???? Thanks ![]() |

Hello ShantheArtist23: Well, I can't say I'm like you. I'm old & male. But I have struggled with anxiety my entire life & have suffered with many different ailments as a result.
Unbridled anxiety can reek havoc with your body. I would say that it is certainly possible for it to be the cause of any & / or all of the symptoms you've listed in your post. However, it is also possible that there could be something going on physically such as an autoimmune condition. So before your symptoms are chalked up to mental illness, I would think it would be important to get thoroughly checked out by a medical doctor, perhaps some sort of specialist, not just your garden variety GP. Then, if you come out with a clean bill of health, perhaps you have to accept the fact that all of these symptoms are the result of mental health struggles: depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. Then you will need to seek treatment for these conditions. The thing is, you are either going to have to be your own advocate in this, or you'll need to have someone (a parent, older sibling, close friend, or other) act as your advocate. You already understand that you cannot & do not want to go on living indefinitely the way you are now. So I would like to encourage you to see if you can find a way to begin to address these issues. Even just beginning to feel like you are finally starting to move forward may help to make you feel at least a little bit better. My best wishes to you. ![]() ![]() |

From your title I could give you the answer I want to give you. I did read your entire post.
The answer is that no one will be exactly like another person. But this I can tell you, I have't walked in your shoes, but I(and a lot of other people on this forum) are walking right beside you. You're never alone here. |

The washing the hands thing sounds like a classic symptom of OCD. The physical symptoms also are part of anxiety. It would be helpful if you spoke to a doctor about these symptoms so they could give you a proper diagnosis and can help you with treatment.

We have a lot in common.
I've been struggling with emetephobia, since I was 9 which eventually lead to a germ phobia that then mutated into OCD. I also have severe anxiety (GAD) that primarily affects my stomach and back muscles. Often I feel old and achy. Nausea and indigestion occur almost daily. My anxiety is so exhausting that I require a lot of sleep. The emetephobia, anxiety and OCD feed each other. I have autism spectrum disorder which explains a lot of this. I found being open about my fears and taking medication (Cipralex) helpful. I used to do everything I could to hid my fear which put a lot of pressure on me. Now that I'm open about it, the anxiety associated with it has eased. Now, I can eat in restaurants and be around people who are sick. It isn't perfect, but it is manageable.

Wow, I've had all the symptoms you describe at some point or another in my life. Sometimes together but usually in smaller clusters. To answer your question, yes there are others out there just like you. Hang tough as long as you can.

Hi ShanetheArtist. I have had some of the symptoms you are having. Anxiety on top of all this is brutal. I agree with the others in that you should maybe start by seeing a medical doctor first, to see if there is a physical cause for some of your troubles. Then you may need to see a pdoc or therapist to get help in managing the anxiety symptoms.
Find a trusted adult you can confide in, maybe a parent, relative, school counselor, etc. You will need their help to obtain treatment and healing. I know if my child was suffering I would do anything in my power to get my child help. My heart goes out to you. Best wishes. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
