I have problem cleaning my house. I let things pile up and then it gets overwhelming.

I know intelectually that I could do a little at a time. But I need help with motivation.

Any advice?

We can help you with a list...tackle one thing on it at a time if it takes a week or so. You'll feel some "power" over it with each one you mark off.

That's usually what I have to do when I have too much to do that feels overwhelming, or else I end up going around in circles, picking at each one, completing nothing.

Project at work was overwhelming. Without the assistance of a coworker, I would have never found the motivation. We will be done today. Is there anyone you would allow in that might be able to kind of give you that extra ...

I am having the same problem. I am trying to put music on. it helps. Also i discovered if I invite someone over i am so embarrassed i get moving even if its a bit. i am finding if someone is here even for a few minutes it gets me going. When I am alone ( most of the time) its like why bother. I was always a neat freak. This is quite a change.

Thank you all so much. I want to reply to each of you, but I am actually starting my cleanup. Did the dishes. There weren't actually many, but they had been there a while. Just knowing I'm not along helps, and I read all your suggestions. I plan to get back with each of you, but got to go finish my kitchen

It seems like a dumb thing to people who don't have depression I guess, but from your replies, you know what it feels like to be at the bottom of that deep dark pit. Thanks again!

OMG!! I could have written this post. I HAVE written similar posts about this recently. LOL. I have the same problem!!! I used to be neat, but now I'm a slob and I'm so overwhelmed, I don't know where to begin. It's just so out of control.

I'm in the same boat. Currently I have about 8 loads of laundry to get put away, 3 just washed yesterday and today. Some folded and in the proper bedrooms.

The dishes, well, the sink is over flowing and I just ran a load of dishes.

Not to mention the floor is needing to be mopped (harwoods through out I need to clean my house! ) and the bathrooms could use a scrubbing and all the clutter. Omg the clutter. it's everywhere. I blame my kids for some of it, but really it's all dh's and mine. And it's everywhere.

I really hope I can get a handle on it all soon. I just got my "percription" today (7 wks of samples). Too bad it doesn't work right off the bat huh?

Turn on some music that u can dance too, and clean that way. I am a housekeeper for a living, and I clean everyday while listening to my MP3 player. I find it makes cleaning Fun, and not like a chore. hopefully I helped a little I need to clean my house!

Hello and welcome to Psych central. I am sorry you are struggling at this time with the housework. Some people have had success with turning on music and making a list of things to do and the times to do them. A timer has helped many people as well to organize their time (take 15 minutes to do something at first, and then increase the time as you can regain control of your organizational skills). Getting someone to help may help you as well to feel less overwhelmed. Take care and good day. Soidhonia

I have the same problem. I guess its that I just plain don't want to waste life doing housework any longer. Once upon a time in my drinking days, I would have the house spik and span, because then I could tolerate myself better, nowadays its like, who give a flying f**K LOL. I do it when the discomfort of not doing it gets to much LOL, and even though as I do it I make all the promises in the world to myself that I will keep on top of it THIS TIME LOL, I dont LOL.
