Hi guys. So i've had a long history of depression and the last few years have been the worst, but I've been on medication that seems to work for me for a while and I've been seeing a mentor and I thought I was doing pretty good over the last 3 months. They seemed to think I wasn't really sick any more anyway. But since christmas I've been falling asleep in the day and sleeping through till the night, then till morning. I don't know why as i'm not that physically tired, it's just an irresistible urge to 'nap' and then it's impossible to wake up, it's like someone else takes over and snoozes the alarm into oblivion then turns it off! Then I wake up annoyed that another day has gone.
I don't feel particularly bad or anything, maybe a little bored, nothing like what I've experienced before. I know that i've done this on and off for at least the last two years but I don't feel so bad now, so it's confusing. Anyone experienced this or have any ideas as to what it might be? Just had a blood test and it came back normal. |

What about medication? Are you on any? That could be the answer. I know I have taken some before that made it next to impossible to stay awake.

Was the blood test just for one thing, usually a full blood count for anaemia or was it full screening, liver, kidney, thyroid, blood sugar etc? Have you had a sore throat recently or a fever, it could possibly be Glandular Fever, it is possible to have extreme fatigue from this even without the acute viral stage.
However, these are just thoughts, you should really have another conversation with your GP. |

I had a cold with a bit of fever and sore throat for a few days some weeks ago, but this started before then. They did a 'tired all the time' screen on me which was for deficiencies, thyroid , blood sugar etc i think. I don't think I'm actually 'tired all the time', though, just 'asleep most of the time' :L most of the time I'm awake I don't feel too bad.I'm still on venlafaxine 225mg which I've been on for about a year now. I don't remember it causing extra tiredness when I first stated it. Thanks for the replies, guys.

The sleeping thing may be related to depression. I've had problems in the past (and still struggle with them actually) with sleeping my life away. Especially when I'm feeling depressed, it's like all I want to do is sleep. I'll end up hitting the snooze over and over again, until after an hour or so the alarm just quits going off.
I was the worst just after high school. I'd sleep in till 2 pm, then get up and eat and watch tv, then go back to sleep again at 11 pm or 12 midnight, and the cycle would start all over. It's hard to stay motivated to be active and not just sleep the day away. Keep your chin up - hopefully we'll both find something that works for us. |

Perhaps I'm avoiding things, yes. My mum was always worrying about me ending up an alcoholic or drug addict like my dad, looks like I might be a sleep addict! :L
