I have always been prone to depression since I was a child. Then schizophrenia hit and my depression only got darker and dangerous. I was put on an SSRI but decided some bad emotion was better than no emotion. Well, I was crying all afternoon. I took my benzo at 7pm as usual, but this time it zonked me out.

I woke up at 12:30am and felt great. I packed 13 boxes of my stuff for the move. Cleaned most of my home. Organized my mail, scooped the kitty litter, straightened out my meds for tomorrow.

That nap helped me so much, however I'm awake at 3:55am now lol

Can anyone explain why I only get depression in the evening and how the nap gave me relief?

I can't explain it but I'm the same way. I do well first thing in the morning and then run down in the afternoon. If I take a nap, it's like resetting myself. I feel much more energetic and in a light mood. It's like my body has a short circuit that can be reset with a nap.

I always feel better after a nap, it gives my brain a chance to rest and reset itself.

I think maybe it is that a nap gives our brains time to relax. Dealing with mental illness can be exhausting, and tiredness makes us more vulnerable to negative emotions and thoughts.

It's like taking a break from thinking. Your subconscious is giving your mind time to stop holding on the feeling and thoughts. You feel refreshed when you wake up the same as when you've stared at a blank paper for a while and just got a new idea. It's like the same thing, especially if you're feeling stressed out.
