How much of a role does boredom play in depression for other people? I just feel so bored and yet restless at the the same time like I'm tired of life and yet can feel each day slowly but steadily slipping away at the same time. What if I'm still like this when I'm 40, 50, 80! If I even make it that far.

Hello annoyedgrunt84. Depression is boring. If you look in a thesaurus they are probably synonyms. If you feel your depression is lingering a little too long then p-doc may have to give you a little tune up. Sorry I can't give you any more than this. I hope your depression lifts soon and you get your energy back!!!!
Thanks for this!

I feel extremely bored with my depression. I think it's because I'm not motivated to do anything fun most of the time so I just languish on the computer, wasting time. I do try to do fun things occasionally, like horseback ride, but that happens very infrequently.
Thanks for this!

Same, I get sucked into the computer for hours sometimes. I have to remember to put the computer down and slowly walk away

I can sympathize. I suffer from boredom and agitation, as well. I'm not sure how to deal with it. I should just be grateful that I'm not as depressed as I was, but I spend so much time pacing the floor wondering what to do next. Nothing seems to satisfy me.

I'm also very bored sometimes. But because I'm still young, I need to go to school, make homework. Also I go to horseriding. Often do not feel like it, but when I do it I enjoy it. I do that every week, because my parents pay for it so I guess I get the feeling that I have no choice. Which is kinf of a good thing Boredom
It's not that I don't enjoy things, it's more that when I imagine doing it, it's terribly boring. I also read less. Seems to boring.

Sorry if my English is bad I'm not native English.
Thanks for this!

I have lately begun to worry that this just may be my natural temperament. Neither of my parents are very active people, I know it is because my mother is partially disabled and doesn't get around very well. If she walks long distances she has tremendous back and leg pain. I never really learned to be active or to participate in activities, hobbies, etc. I think I just learned that when you're not at work you're supposed to veg out.

Nothing wrong with taking it easy if that's what you're inclined to do. It may have something to do with personality and temperament, but there are activities out there that don't require a lot of action. For example, I love to do yoga and meditation, which are both calming activities that are designed to be at your own pace. Gardening can also be relaxing, planting new flowers or blueberry bushes or watering your plants every day to get outside into the sunlight - that's a very common activity. Chillin at a park and people-watching is also an activity. Reading a book at a coffee shop is something lots of people do. Working on a painting for 20 minutes each day can be an interesting activity. Cooking can be relaxing, preparing meals for the next few days, trying new recipes, baking. These are all calming activities that don't require a lot of strenuous activity. It's okay to veg out too. Don't force yourself to do things you don't care about, but do things that you actually enjoy and look forward to, because that's the point.
