Well, a bunch of my employees ganged up on me. Got together and emailed my boss all the "awful" things I do as a supervisor. Wow. I usually get along well with them. I'm funny, I converse well. I consider myself pretty normal, except for my anxiety. But they can be so cruel. I try hard to be a good, supportive boss. I work hard and help them out. It's painful to me that they would do this. The negative thing about me is that I get flustered when a lot is happening at once. I will typically set a stack of papers down hard or do a deep sigh or eye roll when I get this way. I have a low tolerance for frustration. I guess that makes me a bad person. I can't help it. I've tried for years. If my employee sees me do these things I apologize and tell them there is some stress. I know it's not the greatest response, these paper-slamming episodes.
Should I step down from this supervising position? I've been doing it for 10 years. This is the second episode of problems with the group. Last time was similar.
I'm so depressed that they would turn on me. They are not perfect either and I respect their imperfections.

Ouch - so painful to know your employees did this. How did your boss respond to you about the email? Do you think your job is in jeopardy?

If you haven's already, maybe some counseling would help you find your way in this issue.

In my old job someone got in trouble for almost the exact same thing. I didn't get it he is the nicest person I think he was just stressed out. He still works there. It turned out fine for him. The person who complained was not a nice person

This does NOT make you a bad person. Your situation sounds very painful. I hope you can work it through somehow with everyone. Thinking of you.

It's them with the problem, not you. I wouldn't step down from my position just because of them. I imagine being a supervisor is hard. It would be hard to keep everyone happy. Impossible really. I'm sorry they did this to you.

Hello truegem,

As you are probably aware already, being a supervisor means you can't be best buddies with the people you are supervising otherwise they will run over you. You've been a supervisor for 10 years, that means you are good at your job, someone would have let you know by now if you weren't any good at it. I hope you are getting the support you deserve from your boss. It does sound like you are down on yourself right now, maybe a little holiday from work is needed to get things back in perspective and maybe a chat with your doctor about some medication to help.
