I can physically feel depression coming. It starts with a numb feeling in the back of my skull and my eyes start to squint a bit. Maybe this is the chicken and the egg - I really do not know.

But I do know that I am fully back into my darkness.

Anyone else experience depression this way?

Yep, a dull ache that sticks around and doesn't go... Get zoned out and sleepy. I know this is going to sound weird but fish oil capsules that are high in DHA has taken the "edge off" this feeling. I would consider giving it a try--I've taken the Nordic Naturals brand. An aspirin isn't going to work. I've had to go back on meds because of this particular feeling but I'm ok with that for now.

Hi IDM,
The weight of depression.......depression can definitely creep in on you and definitely be physical too.
AND.........I'm sorry you're struggling IDM
We know it will end, because it has before, although that isn't always going to help in the here and now things can/will change.
And in getting to that point.........is there anything more you can do for yourself instead of "hanging in there" e.g. some self care, bringing forward appointments..........??
Although it is really good that you've managed to share on here how things are for you, perhaps we can share the load a bit until it gets lighter.
So anytime you want to talk..................

Alison

Hi

i have felt it coming with heaviness in the head developing slowly. it feels as if my brain is not getting enough oxygen. if i take a long deep breathe the heaviness dissipates only to return.

i can feel it too. i get this weight or pressure in my stomach, and it gets harder to breathe. i also get headaches, and i kinda zone out, or become less present in reality, because my mind is elsewhere (probably thinking of si or sui, or the past). i'll be fatigued - for example, even if i get a solid 8 hours i will still feel exhausted, yawning at all times of the day, etc. that's when i know to watch out, it's coming.

Hi everyone,

The symptoms described in this thread are matching the physical symptoms of stress according to WebMD. Stress preceding an episode of depression makes a lot of sense to me.

- vital

======

Physical symptoms of stress include:

Low energy
Headaches
Upset stomach, including diarrhoea, constipation and nausea
Aches, pains, and tense muscles
Chest pain and rapid heartbeat
Insomnia
Frequent colds and infections
Loss of sexual desire and/or ability
Nervousness and shaking, ringing in the ear
Cold or sweaty hands and feet
Excess sweating
Dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
Clenched jaw and grinding teeth.

Hi IDM. Well, I know the feeling. With me it is more of a heavy feeling in the chest. I have talked to several people about things I can do on my own to lessen depression. Cut out sugar because it destroys B vitamins which are needed for nervous system health.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, for me it's something almost like a headache-- except just tension, no pain.

Plus something else. An all-over feeling that's hard to describe.
