Starting to feel down again. See my pdoc Friday and have to tell him about a new side effect I am having from the meds. Not looking forward to telling him that I am starting to slide again. I feel no joy in anything. I just want to lay in bed all day and forget about everything. I don't want to change the meds at all because the only thing left to try are MAOIs or ECT. Anyone have experience with MAOIs?

Hi Crook, I'm really sorry your feeling down again
But credit to you for being prepared to tell your pdoc what's going on for you. I can understand how it may be hard for you, but they should be there to help, and remember it's not your fault things are slipping!!!
And maybe there are other options first other than switching to MAOI's??? In relation to the side effects of what you're taking, there may be other medications you could be prescribed specifically to combat those........and maybe they could change doses a little or prescribe another medication to top up on what you're taking now to help with how you're feeling???
So, maybe, possibly.........???
And sorry but no personal experience with MAOI's, although yes there can sometimes be more side effects.......and they can be more restrictive e.g. with foods you have to avoid.......but probably a good question to ask in the Psychiatric Medications forum if there's a possibility that you may need them.........which may not be the case????
But although there can certainly be down sides to them........pro's and con's.......if they are actually going to help where other things can't, then maybe worth it regardless (if you need them!!!)???.

Hey crook, sorry things are so hard. I haven't tried MAOIs or been offered them, but I don't fancy the diet restrictions, it can be serious if you don't stick to them but they really help some people. I hope you can find a way to stop the slide, it can be so scary I know the feeling well. Sending all the warm supportive thoughts I can find and best of luck with your discussion.
Thanks for this!

Thanks Alison. My hope is he lets me stay on the meds I am on now but just adjust the Latuda. But it has already been said that the next step is the MAOIs. I have tried so many meds in the last 2 years that I have lost count. I am having an ok day today so part of me doesn't even want to bring it up to him at all.

Hi Crook, really good you're having an OK day
It would still be good if you could mention to your pdoc how you were feeling though, as well as the improvement.
If things start slipping again (which hopefully they won't ) it can be harder and harder to say something as you're slipping further down..........maybe leaving you at a point where a slight adjustment in your medication wouldn't help anyway, and it needs to be MAOI's instead of anything else. So the sooner/the more they know about any difficulties you're having..........
So it all kind of comes down to whatever's best for you which hopefully your pdoc can help you with........and IF longer term MAOI's come into it..........well there are plenty of people who have found that these work where nothing else has, and the lift it has given them well compensates for some of the other things and restrictions that come along with them.
But hoping tomorrow is another OK day for you, anyway.

Alison
