I can't tell if I'm really depressed or just whiny and in need of an attitude adjustment. Do you have any good ways for telling the difference?

Yes sometimes it can be hard to distinguish how we feel ... but I have a feeling that you're not just being whiny and in need of an attitude adjustment. This time of year can also be just as hard as those winter days. Sometimes its easier to feel better when outside is gross .. that way you can justify your actions by wanting to stay inside. I know it often makes me feel worse when its sunny out and you can hear or see people who are happy and enjoying the weather and each others company. Hang in there my friend, and please don't thing that you are being whiny. You have good reasons to feel the way you do, and while it may not seem like it, you just have to believe that you can get through this - because you CAN. As for work ... well that can be a tricky situation. I actually had a break down at work the other day (new job too!) and i know how frustrating and humilifying it can be. Just try and live in the moment. Try not to let whatever is bothering you affect you at work. I know its WAY easier said than done, but i have faith in you that you can do it. Hang in there hun, and i'm here if you ever want to chat. Sending warm gentle hugs your way xo Jacq ![]()

Trouble at work for it - does that mean someone indicated that you had a "Blank" attitude?
Is that why you are questioning depressions versus attitude? Many people especially employers can't see inside - they can only see what you do and that usually defines who you are. We know that it is not who you are... It's ok to hibernate - just remember to poke your head out once in awhile...

Well, I got a fairly lousy review, largely based on the fact that I haven't been producing. My boss is now doing byline counts to make sure I do what he considers the minimum per week. Most days I would rather be home in bed, particularly given my problems with my officemate. Plus I hate living here.
I'm sure it's all contributing to dragging me down. |

Reviews like that are never easy...
It can be easy for supervisors to start thinking in terms of only that snapshot and see things through those glasses. Do what you can to meet and exceed the minimums set - I hate to have you need a different job. I would rather have you looking and securing a different line of work instead of that decision being made for you... Not sure where here is - but this could be an opportunity to consider relocating? Just my two cents from the point of view of a supervisor.

"Here" is an itsy-bitsy town in northwestern Wisconsin. I have determined once and for all I am a city kid. It's very scenic here, but I have nothing in common with dairy farmers, and that's who lives here.
I am working on relocating, but I need a job first.... |

I've been in that area - if city is what you are looking for the Twin Cities or Madison may be good choices. PM me - I am originally from your state.

((((((((Candybear)))))))))))) You're not whiny, you sound like you're frustrated with boredom. I hope you find a job where you want to relocate soon.
I wish I lived in an area with dairy cows!!!!! ![]() |
