It was a sad and embarrassing thing today to have to tell one of my husband's friends I lost my job. I hated myself and my whole life. However, I forced myself to go to the unemployment office and apply for unemployment benefits. I was scared to death the whole time because I can still remember a bad experience I had at the unemployment office in 1992. Thankfully, things were different today. The people at the unemployment office were kind and helpful.
They gave me a recommendation to apply for a job at the Coca Cola company. I went to apply for a job as a route accounting clerk. Part of me hopes I get the job. Part of me is afraid to fail again. I need a job to help pay the bills, but I can't stand the thought of failing at anything else. My husband thinks I should take more time off and recover from all the stress. I prayed that I can get a job that I can handle and be successful at. |

Hi waterknob,
Telling someone you lost your job...........well hey that was only part of it, there was a lot more to it than it being that basic........what about adding things (the truth!!) like "It didn't go well, it wasn't really what I expected it to be", "It wasn't the job for me", "It didn't allow me to really use my skills", "The trainer was too impatient"...........it wasn't anywhere near as simple as you lost your job..........and again really well done on giving it a go ![]() If you hadn't you may have been haunted by "what if's", but now you get to explore what might be really right for you. And glad it went well for you at the unemployment office ![]() They should be understanding and helpful........any benefits you get to claim, remember you're entitled to them, you have every right to them. But the job you're applying for..........completely agree with Rohag, it's down to what you think after considering everything as to whether you think you're ready for it. If you're not sure maybe keep on thinking about it, or talking if it helps. Don't need to make any firm decisions now, and you can always ask questions if you make interview stage if that will help. And "Part of me is afraid to fail again............but I can't stand the thought of failing at anything else"...........you didn't fail, you tried and it just didn't work out with the last job ![]() Why blame yourself when you could maybe change "I wasn't right for the job", to "The job wasn't right for me"???? ![]() Alison |

Whether or not your husband's advice is right, he obviously wants for you to feel better. Was accounts work was something you enjoyed in the past? Is the Coca Cola company a good employer with good insurance? There's no harm in finding out a bit more about the job, but if you feel overwhelmed at the prospect then you probably need a bit more time to recuperate.

Hi,
I am seeing myself a couple of years ago, overwhelmed by job and my chances to failure. Thank you for sharing! Maybe what I am telling you is not useful, but I will share it just in case. Please, take into account that it is just my experience and that I am far from being cured. I am work in progress ![]() You could try this: apply and eventually, if you get the job, try working and if you fail at the end of the day, don't take it too seriously, like an exercise. I try to think we are not born invincible, we are vulnerable by nature, little creatures that are just a bit more intelligent than monkeys. Just a bit because despite all our reasoning we are mostly dominated by impulses, not much of our behavior is really under our control. We are just tiny particles of the universe. Our lives are like flashes, we should not take ourselves so seriously. Getting a job, losing a job, buying a car, etc , etc, are just instants of our lives. We are just trying here, all the time. I try to think like this, I try to discipline my mind each time regrets or fear poison my mind. It is not easy but it is working so far. I send you a big hug

From your post, this seems more about you needing to feel you accomplish something And feel successful. It is ironic that I have heard 2 times know (from watching tv) about people that says bring successful feels good. Then I heard another thing about success being about your own definition of what is successful to you. Maybe having a great family is one or a skill...i don't know what it is for you...maybe it is some connection with God or something that others don't have...something... You just need to feel successful at something. It's more than just a job. People loss jobs, business owners loss clients or loss huge chunks of money or their business...sucess is more than a job....I hope this makes sense.
