Who's with me?

When it's sunny weather, I feel worse. I know that many people are enjoying the sun and I feel bad for sitting at home. I feel more comfortable if it rains or snows.

That's right, you feel depressed about being depressed when the weather is so good, and then you feel guilty and it goes downhill from there.

The best thing to do is go to bed until dusk then get up and be pleased with yourself that you have had a good rest and and are enjoy the balmy twilight. This does not work in Scotland where the sodding insects bite you to death at all hours.

i am with you on that. i believe i have the opposite of the "winter blues", or "sad" in summer. i feel better on cloudy rainy days. dark curtains on all windows, especially facing south. fans and a/c on full blast. it is hard my husband tolerates it okay in the interest of "keeping the house cool" but i know other people see it as freakish. the curtains also keep the anxiety level down i can't stand the idea of people being able to see into my house. which is silly as there is nothing but woods across the street. i try to let a slice of light into my living room for the sake of my kids, which is essentially that i parted the curtains a bit, but the blinds are still closed.
so maybe you and i have that in common? it is nice to feel not so alone.

I have heat intolerance and have never liked the sun and heat.

I love cold rainy days. A/C is always on full blast. I love clouds and overcast times, even thunderstorms (minus the lightning if I'm outside).

Sun and light are not mood boosters for me.

I don't consider sunny weather to be "good" weather. It's the worst kind of weather. Rain is good weather.

Maybe it's something like what MOCS suggested... or maybe it's something like me.

i'm agoraphobic, and know exactly how the summer/ sunshine can affect mood.

for me it's the same. i get in to a pattern of thinking about people and all the possible things they might be doing (picnicks, going to the beach, theme parks) and i just get to feeling so depressed about not only the fact that i'm at home, but i feel like i've missed out on so many experiences/ oppotunities

i used to try and think about other people who couldn't get out for what ever reason (people in hospital, for example. or the elderly.

but it never helped me.

think that's why i like the rain- i don't cary that guilt so much.

Hey elin.

I prefer rainy days to the hot sun myself. How are you doing these days?

I am glad I am not the only one. I prefer rainy, cloudy, cooler weather. I am not a summer person, I am a winter person. Depression is also much worse for me in the summer. I think what makes it worse is that it is too hot to go outside for long. I feel "caged up" indoors. But I need to stay in air conditioning unless I am going swimming.

When it rains in the summer and gets cloudy it cools off. I also like storms.

Ohhhh, I've heard of that! It's like the opposite of typical Seasonal Affective Disorder, where your highs are in the winter rather than summer. I've heard of people having to black out their windows and use ice packs to get relief. (I'm sometimes morbidly interested in abnormal psychology. It's a coping mechanism.) On a somewhat related note, has anyone else noticed how many mental disorders are abbreviated SAD? Seems ironic.
