I have memories of the past that I need to get rid of, but they seem to stay with me. This has caused my anxiety or panic attacks worse also my depresion. How can I stop living in the past? I need to know how to put these memories behind me and forgive myself?

I did it through therapy and journalling, but it does take time. And just about the time I think I have it behind me something will come back a remind me, so be patient with yourself..

I've found that this works really well for stopping unwanted thoughts and feelings for me: http://egg.bu.edu/~youssef/SNAP_CLUB...0164151576.pdf With a little bit of training (which is even fun to do), you may find that you CAN stop those thoughts. As soon as you do, something changes. The spell is broken and you may realize that you have been afraid of your own feelings and you don't have to be afraid anymore. ![]() |

hi Littleman
I am sorry these memories are giving you trouble. Perhaps asking the Dr. to have a look at the medication would be helpful. Are you in therapy? That can give you good coping skills for dealing with this problem. CBT has been adapted for dealing with all conditions. I use acceptance and commitment therapy. It is based on research, which says that, trying to get rid of symptoms only makes them worse. And accepting them is better. It is saying to yourself. you are experiencing the symptom and then watching it as it goes out of your mind and keeping doing that till the thoughts stop. which they always do, while at the same time getting on with the business of the day. Perhaps this would work for you.. Keeping the mind busy doing especially enjoyable things will take the focus away from problems. I hope and pray this improves for you soon. Take care. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis |
