I was wondering how do you relate with music when you are depressed or suicidal?

For me, music doesnt exist. It is like I loose the ability to feel rhythm. When it first happened I thought that was the cruelest thing that could happen to a human in a depression- the inability to relate with music.

I want to sing in the shower and dance in the rain, but, alas, I just shuffle with no music in my soul. Almost makes you hate God. I have been like this for good minute and I wonder if I will ever get my mojo back.

Music has got me out of a few hair raising moments. It's a distraction, most days I listen to music, but sometimes I just don't want to as I have no interest. If you had a good time in your life and a song reminds you of that happy time, it may be a good idea to stick it on even if you don't feel like it. It's good to distract yourself when you are feeling suicidal, after all the thoughts do pass and music for me helps. It works most times but not all. Best wishes.

I have a wide range of music I enjoy. When I'm on PC, I'm generally listening to Buddhist chant videos on YouTube. But, when I'm depressed, there tend to be just a very few songs I particularly want to return to. The primary one is "Nobody Knows Me at All" by The Weepies. Depression doesn't reduce my interest in music. It just tends to refocus it a bit...

Music has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, but depression has robbed me of this comfort. I can't listen to music at all anymore - just makes me feel worse. Been like this for over a year.

Depression is the lack of feelings, music restores feelings, but it has to be loud.
