So I have been out of work for almost three months for depression. I am returning to work on Tuesday and I am not sure what to tell people when they ask why I have been out. My T and I have been talking about it and she said it is up to me what I tell people. That I don't have to tell them anything because they don't have to know anything if I don't want them to. A couple of people at work do know about the depression and have been cool about it and say that others would be too but I am still nervous about it.

Nothing. It's nobody's business. If you feel compelled to say anything at all, simply say that you had some health issues.

Werewoman is certainly right; you don't owe them any explanation. You know your coworkers best. If you need to say something, formulate an answer that will diminish rather than increase their curiosity.
Wishing you a easy transition back to work.

Crook, say you had family matters to attend to and it is good to be back. If unmarried say it is a sibling or a parent, and leave it at that. Your integrity is intact. Blessings.
