I've been dealing with depression and fatigue for years. Recently, I became overwhelmed with changes at my job and I quit. 20 years there and I quit. Now I'm even more hopeless. I just hated going there anymore; I just snapped.

I hate this life so much.

Maybe something better will come your way, I sure hope so. I'm not in that black pit right now, but I used to be. I'm sorry you are feeling this way. I know this didn't help much but....

Sounds like you just opened up one amazing window of opportunity for yourself, Noctuary (albeit unplanned and a bit scary.) Great things could come from this. Goodluck!!

Hi Noctury

Do you think maybe we could look at it as the changes giving the motivation you really needed to quit, which ultimately may be a good thing??
Although.......not sure whether the word "quit" is having too many negative connatations for you??
How about, the way I see it, as you showed incredible resilience over the years, overcame many challenges however got to the point where you decided "Why should you have to put up with everything being thrown at you???!!!!", that you were worth more than that. And that isn't about "quitting" , it's about doing what's right for you.
So huge kudos on sticking at it that long, and huge kudos for deciding "enough is enough"
Now maybe this is a great opportunity to find something better for you, something that can even help a bit with the depression, you clearly have a lot to give

Maybe quitting for I'm the job could be a blessing in disguise.

Look in taking strengths finder 2.0 test. It helps direct career paths based off of your strengths.

Try to stay busy a a distraction from rumination. Isolation is the worse which would lead to social detachment.
