Okay people, I am going to keep it simple like always.
![]() We all know, few people don't deserve love. For instance, take me I don't deserve your love. So you have to be grateful, for the friends you have. Don't drench them in your blue. Smile, make a mask. They will eventually fix you. This is my perspective, you may think it's lame. But it's what I came up with. and that's what matters. Thoughts? |

Other people can't fix you. Whether it's doctors, therapists, friends, family, self-proclaimed experts on the internet, etc. Others can help you find your way, comfort you, sympathize with you, support you, give advice, offer solutions. But nothing is going to change unless you help yourself. I'm talking about long term lasting changes.

I don't really understand what point is OP trying to make.
I agree, nobody can "fix" me.

What I meant was, even though you will never be fixed, don't break others.

everybody deserve love....
you know...? no one can change us... people can help us get there... but you know it doesnt mean that some dont deserve love... some people maybe shouldn't get our love - or be praised for things they do... some people shouldn't get any at all maybe... but is because of their actions... not because they dont deserve it... if everyone was loveed as greatly as i love you all... we would not have so many problems in the world.... am not attacking you, so dont think im saying some thing bad... i am just saying i think everyone needs love.... maybe the ones that dont have any, need it the most.... wish i could have some love... just dont feel like love is real anymore... is a fake thing people make up you know... but some fake things are nice....

You're right we all deserve and need to give love. And, yes, love can help us if we let it. It would be nice if love could fix all of our problems, wouldn't it?

So, what, you're telling CLINICALLY DEPRESSED people to just fake being happy around others and voila, no more depression? That other people can somehow miraculously "fix" a chemical imbalance in the brain, not to mention years or DECADES of thought patterns that, while irrational, are completely entrenched? Seriously???
You're entitled to your perspective, certainly, but my thought is that you're quite full of it. There is no "answer for depression," and FAKING HAPPINESS certainly isn't going to help! I'm frankly appalled by this.

Well, I am not offended by you being appalled. I am searching for an answer, for similarities. I was asking for thoughts, So what do you want me to do? I don't want to hold my friends back, I have always let them down.

Quite frankly I'm very skeptical of anyone who claims to have "the answer" for depression... but this was just way off the mark. |

Well certainly whinning all over others does not help.
And I agree, we have no right to be loved. Relationships are give and take and we gotta handle our **** ourselves, not expect others to fix it. They can't.

Still, I feel like true friends should at least attempt to understand and help by listening to your struggles, giving you that ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on, that kind of thing. I tend to think there's a fine line somewhere between dumping your problems on absolutely everyone who will listen, and staying totally silent about it. But being fake-happy with everyone strikes me as the wrong way to go about it. And I don't believe that anyone can "fix" me.

The answer to depression doesn't exist. Just like the answer to physical diseases don't exist. It's individual. I do not at all agree with what you said.
And trust me, I am a pro at faking happiness. Exhausting myself to seem like the happiest person that has ever walked this earth so people don't suspect me of being off, or depressed. And this fake happiness is what broke me and I know for sure I will never be fixed. People can 'help' you if you go through a short patch of gloominess, dissatisfaction. BUT PLEASE, how can you compare that to an illness that kills so many people ? People can't fix you, because they don't know how you feel ! They can't fix you, because it's in YOUR head. That is what makes this disease so lonely and even more horrible. It's the fact that, unlike physical illnesses, you can't go to a doctor and say "cure me". You can't go to a friend and say "cure me." They can HELP you with tasks, maybe motivate you but they can never cure you. We all feel depression differently and it is especially hard to discuss your feelings with someone who has never had to struggle with it. In some cases, people manage to live life without that illness and sometimes I admire them. But in the end, the disease is individual, has individual triggers or maybe no triggers at all. And that makes me see that there is and never will only one answer to depression. |

you didnt offend me.. everyone has their ideas, its good to express ideas, we all learn from sharing...
for me i put on masks everyday, i have for many many years... faking it till you make it doesnt work for me either... i know what you meant though, and that may be the situation for situational depression... but for depression depression its a little different... situational depression can get better if you just keep pushing through... but this depression i have doesnt change, it gets worse... the more you fight it, the longer it goes on.. the weaker you get... the harder it gets... the less hope and faith you have... whining to people doesnt make it better, and i dont think that crying to everyone how horrible you feel is the answer either.... it is nice to have a person you can open up to and share these things with though, from time to time... someone that maybe can understand... so my philosophy sort of is... just wear the mask... dont drag anyone down with me... its my problem, no one elses problem... i have to deal with it every second of the day... dont have to make everyone around me miserable... dont feel bad for sharing your thoughts, i think its good to share - we need to learn from each other ![]() ![]()

Don't feel bad, or apologise for stating how you behave and what you believe works for you.
However, when another Thread is titled 'The Answer For Depression', you have to realise you are addressing an audience many of whom have suffered with severe, Clinical Depression for years, if not decades (over 40 years for me). You need to have something unique and earth-shattering to get a positive reaction from those who have been ground down to their cynical core. Keep doing what you are doing, as long as you are sure you are not repressing problems and allowing them to fester untreated. Dave.
