Why should I continue? Is there something I am missing? Is the effort of living worth something?

Oh downguy, I understand how you feel. I want you to know you are not alone. Many of us here have asked the same questions. Please keep posting. I'm sure others with more encouraging words will respond.

Hello downguy6: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

I'm really sorry you feel this way. But it will pass. Don't do something that puts a permanent fix on a temporary problem. If you continue feeling like you can't go on, please go to the ER. People on this forum suffer from some kind of MI so we've been there. I was just there three weeks ago and had to stay in psych. I'm feeling a lot better now and I'm glad I'm alive. This will pass.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Do you have a crisis line to call? Like RxQueen said, if it gets really bad go to the ER. There are people who care here and we've been through what you're going through now.

Hello downguy, if you don't have a local hotline number you can call, the links at the top of this page have some national hotline numbers you can call. If you are really thinking of ending things you need some help, so please call a number or go to the ER as others have said. Thirteen years ago I felt the same way and I was ready to end it but I called a hotline instead.

If you are like me you don't want to end things you just want the pain to stop and you feel like it never will stop. That's how I felt... It would never stop or it was too much to bear. If you get into a treatment program you will see that there is hope and there is another choice. You have to give it some time but with an alternative it becomes easier to bear the pain.

Remember that the hopelessness comes from the depression, it doesn't represent reality.

downguy6, I have felt that many many times. It does pass and things can feel better. I do take meds and I have been in therapy, but lately I have been better than baseline and that has always been my goal. Big hugs this site and its members have also helped a great deal. I learned so much here and made some wonderful friends! I hope you will also!

I'm so sorry you are having a rough time. I've been there. When I don't want to hold on for myself, I make myself hold on for others. Hugs to you!!!
