Hello, my name is Farris. I am a 27 years old guy from Saudi Arabia. I have been suffering from depression for the last 8 years. I am better now than before but I am looking to improve myself.

Here is my situation ...

Before I was depressed I use to have drive for work and life. And after I got depressed I lost all my drive. I started taking medication to help me with my problems. The thing is, before I was depressed, I use to have so much drive. I would sit on the computer for hours and hours working or playing. And now I can't stay for more than one hour a day, well maybe not one hour but two or three. After I started taking medication I lost all my interest in the stuff that use to be fun, and now I feel like not doing anything at all.

My question is, what is my problem? Is this normal for depressed people? Is there a way or a magic pill that can restore my drive towards work and life?

Have you had the same experience?

Please share your insight. And thank you in advance

Farris

Hi Farris,
Yes, it happened to me. Partially it was caused by depression plus anxiety. But later doctors discovered that I had osteomyelitis, anemia, and hypothyroidism. So, those illness were contributing to the symptoms of depression, as well. To me, it is important to check out health fully.
Hope this is useful

Hi Clara, thank you for your reply. What did you do to get better. Because my friend told me the same thing about hypothyroidism, and I checked with a doctor and he told me I am okay. Do the illness that you mentioned had an affect on your drive towards work? Did you get better?

I have drive when I'm manic but not when I'm depressed. I, at one time, thought it was the medications but I've been manic while on it so that can't be it. I don't know of a magic pill or solution to the problem. They did put me on Ritalin and that helped some.

I got better. But I am still fighting. I got T4 for my hypothyroidism; surgery and treatment for my osteomyelitis but it is chronic. I got Prozac and therapy for my depression. I stopped Prozac because it is no longer working. But I am definitely much better
