We often think of depression and think of all the pain and suffering we have gone through. "What are the Good Things that come about by depression?"
10 Good Things About Depression | World of Psychology

It opens up the door to see that even though life handed us a tragic time in our lives, it also handed us potential benefits we may have already experienced but have not yet recognized.

Join us for an interesting and different discussion on another side of depression rarely looked at. Thursday, 9PM EDT Depression Support Room.

Eh... I think this can be a good read for some, but I personally can't relate with any of them besides the first 3, and number 10. Plus some of these points make absolutely no sense to me.. like number 4: "Depression helps your thinking". How? If anything, I feel thick when depressed, I can never think straight or focus or get anything of value accomplished. Besides the fact that all of the things this list mentions can be attained without having depression. IMO, the cons of depression will always beat out the few "pros" (but maybe that's just me).

LauraBeth,
Sorry I am not sure what your question was.

I expected some people might find it ridiculous, but we get so tired of all the things wrong with depression that I thought it was worth a try.

BTW this is more reaction than I ever got before in an announcement of topic
At least people are noticing it,

Ennui,
Thank you for reading the article and finding 2 that you agree with.

BTW I would never advise anyone to get in depression for the benefits. No if you are not depressed just go on with your life.

For me I reached a point where I had to stop focusing on my depression symptoms and start living life because I was totally stuck. Some of these things are stages I have graduated to or aspire to. Having hope that we can get through depression is a major part of recovery for me as far as recovery has gone.

Thanks for your response.

Possibly, the article is misnamed anyway....It is written from the perspective of someone who has been through it (at least that's the impression I get).

I agree that depression has given me an empathy I didn't (couldn't) have had before. But at what cost?

I did find the author quoted...Peter Kramer...to be wrong to the point of insulting. Just based on what she chose to quote of his. I have not (nor do I want to, now) read anything by him...

AND.....your typo made me smile. That is a victory for me.
