This is my worst time of year for depression -- I quit drinking a few years ago and that unmasked a serious depression in me....Before I quit drinking fall was my FAVORITE time of year -- bonfires (with beer), deer camp (with beer), late season fishing (with beer)...and while I still love these things, now I do them we my annual depression.

I am medicated this year with hopefully a stabilizing set of meds -- so here goes!

Hi MyPOV,

First of all MASSIVE kudos to you on quitting the drinking!!!
I'm guessing that was a real problem in itself for you??
And quitting drinking without meds to fall back on at the time...........WOWW (!!) that's got to have been SO, SO hard for you in managing!!!! So respect!!!!

And..........great you now have some meds to help you find your way further forward, and hoping with you that this time of the year goes better for you
And for any tough times..........glad you've found PC, just try to keep on sharing, you're not on your own in this

A huge congratulations for stopping drinking. I know there are many of us who fear autumn and the possibility of depression it brings.

The coming of fall just reminds me of the summer I wasted trapped in my room.

I did order a SAD (seasonal affective disorder) lamp today. It is a 10,000 lux bright light therapy lamp. My psychologist has one in his office as he has no windows and he said he thinks it works really well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I had a co-worker that used one in his cube...it was odd cuz suddenly there would be this area glowing amidst all the cubes....maybe I should look into one of those.

Know what you mean: Autumn equinox at 2.21pm (Greenwich Mean Time), days will now be shorter than nights until 20th March.

First autumn for two years without citalopram - no sign of SAD so far.

I have a lamp as well and have had it for about 10 years...I am on the second one. I think it really helps. Also I sketch and the light is great for sketching and putting on makeup!!!!
