I am shocked by the number of people I know who take antidepressants and continue to drink alcohol. In fact, everyone I know who takes antidepressants admits to drinking, often daily, even if only a few glasses of wine. The point is, everything I have read about antidepressants says not to drink alcohol with them. So how in the world can we be sure antidepressants are working properly when people are not even abiding by the guidelines?

As a general rule, I would think alcohol would not mix well with any psych medications.

I also know that people take it upon themselves to mess with their medication dosages.

I don't take antidepressants or drink alcohol. I am battling depression with natural methods, which aren't that great, but easily tracked.

I read the entire pamphlet that came with my meds, and it said in severe cases mixing the two can be fatal. While that's rare, the possibility that it could happen is enough to scare me from touching alcohol.

I am one who has always drank on meds. Honestly I think certain medications made the urges to drink stronger... I've been med free for 2 months now and although I still probably drink too much, it's not a constant need to anymore.

In the leaflets it only used to say that alcohol would exacerbate side effects such as drowsiness and that was never enough to deter me. Obviously taking anti depressants with alcohol which is a depressant is a bit pointless...again not enough to stop me.

I've also never been good with med compliance. Always reducing doses or stopping altogether without the doctors say so.

I'm better med free, mostly.
