Former "spiritual mother" said how I was "pissing away" my life..

So I guess, like the ... Teachers at school.., she judged me as having "potential"

Potential for what?

And who cares?

We were born alone... And one day...

When I was in either junior high or perhaps the first year or two of high school (memory fails me) my "guidance counselor"... told me I was going to be a bum because I didn't know what I wanted to do when I grew up. How did she know?

Grrrr how sweet of her

I didn't have a "guidance counsellor" - I went to an oh so proper all girls school...nobody was allowed to have any "issues"

Somehow, in all my "stupidity" I managed to be in the "top stream" - I had to be or it would have been beaten out of me..

But somehow also I learnt almost nothing

Then, when I was in the hospital, following my first do-it-yourself final exit effort, the psychiatrist who was seeing me told me I had ruined my life. She wanted me to have ECT... I decided, since my life was already ruined... what was the point? I do so appreciate all of helpful advice & insights I received over the years...

I suspect true insight is in much shorter supply than the number of "insightful ones".

My fifth grade teacher said I wasn't going to graduate high school and was probably going to end up a criminal when I grew up. She was a ***** who didn't deserve the right to teach.
I'm sorry that your teacher let you down, too.

I guess I let a lot of people down with my life choices. But in the end it doesn't really matter.

I think partly what she meant was I was helping the "wrong" people (in her perception) - partly that anyway I disagree and am thankful I didn't abandon ... non Christian friends - she thought one of them was "nuttier than a (brand name..) peanut (but she didn't really know this person...)

None of us mortals possess "perfect insight" ...

We don't need to live up to others expectations. We don't live in their perceived view of the world. That is a lesson I keep trying to learn.

Yeah, that 5th grade teacher was hardcore Catholic. I don't hold it against the entire religion, though.
I'm not religious myself, but I've never seen a problem with it. I only see a problem with personalities of people who to choose judge and condemn more than open their minds.

Who are we to judge when we ourselves are imperfect?

I agree completely! I have a problem with those "personalities" (and I could "dx" some of them but choose not to...) who with closed minds judge and condemn. Very well put. And sadly some of these people were supposedly "intelligent". Maybe they could be, if they had the ability to be humble and get their heads out of their asses and take the time to use what intelligence they have to revise their judgements and their world view ...

(Not about anyone on PC)

It's hard not to judge those who have abused us though

Is it judging or is it trying to understand...how could they do some of those things

Look at that comment I first made about that teacher "a ***** who didn't deserve the right to teach". I'd say I made a judgment based on a series of bad experiences with that person. I am imperfect. Truth is, everyone judges, but it's when you allow your judgments to consume you and close your mind is when it becomes a problem. I'd be perfectly open to the idea that she got better and became a better teacher, but in that school year and in the moment she said what she did, I don't believe she was.
And yeah, I think a large part of our "judgment" of our abusers is just trying to understand how they could hurt us like they did. What brought my dad to say what he's said to me? What prompted my mom to hit me all of the time for a good portion of childhood? I'd call that sort of thing more like analysis for me, because I'm genuinely trying to understand why.
Thanks for this!

I had a counselor in HS who essentially said the same thing to me. He got all pissed off when my parents refused to let him hold me back a year and that's when he said I would never amount to anything and wouldn't get anywhere with my life.
