Anyone else ever get irritated by those antidepressant commercials?

Try to tap into pathos by "empathizing" with us. Then use ethos, giving us only the "positive" outcomes. Then for the finish, you get a list of so many side-effects that are read as fast as possible and still take up one-third of the actual commercial.

And they wonder why (especially with my experience) I have distaste for Pfizer more than anything else.
Screw those bouncing circle things

Them Med Commercials

I get irritated by all psychiatric medication commercials. They own the mental health industry. The pedal supposed therapy as a market to sell their poison.

Right?!

You know the U.S. accounts for 90% of the world's Ritalin medication. This Pfizer company was originally based out of Switzerland, but they weren't willing to give that **** to their children. Here in the U.S., however, teachers and parents thought they'd found an easy fix for their child's "ADHD problem". Half these kids that are put on it are just that, kids. They are bright, playful and critical children who could change the world one day. God forbid they act like children, right? Those hooligans need their medication so that adults aren't pulling their hair out. And Zoloft, oh let's just approve the medication right now for children under eighteen. Let's forget the fact that up to age twenty-four there's a very real likely-hood of that patient becoming increasingly violent and suicidal while they're on it.

These are children!

It's bad enough they do this crap to adults. Leave the damn kids alone.

Sorry....Ranted a little bit there. I think this subject is the fastest way for me to get ticked off.

I typically don't watch TV very much and tune out commercials but the psych med commercials get my interest and ire. So classless and disgusting.

I have seen commercials for anti-psychotics and as always "ask your doctor". That is insanity.

I was at the doctor's a few weeks ago, and she was running late so I was stuck flipping through the ladies magazines, and every two pages was a 2 page ad for various meds. The thing I found especially interesting was the ad for Lyrica that has 'feeling sick' as a side-effect. The reason this caught my attention was because when I first went on meds 23 years ago, I had some health issues and felt strange at times, but once I got on a bunch of meds I started feeling sicker and sicker and sicker to the point I was almost bedridden for 5 years. It wasn't anything specific, just a yucky feelings. When I went off the meds, the feeling went away. Of course I was far too naive to ever consider that what I was experiencing was a side-effect!!!

I also love how antidepressant ads note that they can make your depression worse!!! I say that all the time on here, and I truly believe that a lot of people who can't seem to pull out and stay out of a depression while on meds are experiencing a side-effect.

There are some meds people just have to be on or their quality of life is going to be horrific, but I still find it interesting how you see side-effects like 'drug resistant TB' and the like with meds that suppress the immune system.

I love the hushed, rapid recitation of a long list of possible side effects at the end of each advertisement:

Quote:
Patients taking Happinex for depression have reported depression, mood swings, high-risk behavior, agoraphobia, hives, shingles, boils, blackheads, whiteheads, lesions, dry mouth, disappointment, dramatic weight loss, catastrophic weight gain, more depression, migraines, anxiety, joint pain, reckless parenting, excessive sweating, explosive flatulence, political incorrectness, socialism, toxoplasmosis, tornado-grade mania, vivid self-destructive ideation and an overwhelming compulsion to do their whole village. Discontinue Happinex immediately if you experience any of these symptoms. Consult your doctor if you experience an erection lasting longer than six hours on Happinex.

they only correct information is the commercials is the list of side effects.

Also... how can these commercials be even effective? 30 seconds of commercial......... one minute of side effects. Read very quickly.

LIke, I am supposed to call my doctor that? Unless it's "Hey doc, I really wanna die and there was just a commercial on the TV for med that may cause death, I can i have that?"
