So I have chronic depression. I finally got a full time job for the first time two months ago. I like it but I find myself often at work just getting so emotionally exhausted that all emotion falls from my face and i feel so tired that I just have to sit down and stare blankly. It gets to be so hard to even keep my eyes open. I sleep enough I eat fine. It isn't that. I have thoughts about life not feeling real. Is this a thing with anyone else? I take like 3mg of Xanax to get rid of this feeling, lower dosages don't affect me

When working I just wanna be home. When I'm not working I have no interest in doing anything. I just lay around and feel more depressed than ever.

I know how you feel. Often times, I just can't focus when I'm at school... I just want to go home.. and then I do absolutely nothing

So I completely understand what you're going through Hope you'll feel better these days..

You're being too hard on yourself.
I mean, look at you! You're working FULL time. Even people 100% healthy often struggle in the rat race. We spend 75% of our time at work so as far as I'm concerned you're winning in this game of life, . Also, you don't hate your job. You like it. You're really lucky!

I think you should try and pursue a hobby. It doesn't need to be anything spectacular like cliff jumping. Joint a gaming group. Reading group. Running.

I think you just need a little something to give you that second wind when you get home from work.

You'll be OK, . Update us! X0X0

I'm not being hard on myself. And I don't enjoy things when I try.

Are you taking anything for your depression?

It sounds to me like you have all the symptoms of low dopamine and opioid neurotransmitters in your brain. Please check out this brain function questionnaire and see if you don't recognize yourself:

http://drjolee.com/Brain-Function-Questionnaire.pdf

I believe that those of us with mood disorders, depression, anxiety and similar disorders aren't able to produce adequate neurotransmitters to keep us feeling happy and productive without taking supplements in the form of amino acids that are used by the brain to produce the needed neurotransmitters. It's like an insulin dependent diabetic who needs insulin to keep their blood sugar stable.

I've been using amino acids and the mineral supplement lithium orotate to control my bipolar 2 for 9+ years now with amazing success! I was on meds for 13+ years prior to that with limited success, and a host of nasty side-effects that finally forced me to go off them. I wish you could see the difference in my mood from when I was on meds, and just barely functioning to now where I'm actually happy and feel like my life is worth living again. There is not comparison, and I credit it all to giving my brain those nutrients it needs to be able to produce the neurotransmitters that it needs to function. My situation isn't anything special--there are other threads where people are trying amino acids and doing well. This is the wave of the future in the treatment of mood disorders and anxiety.

Here are some articles on the subject that explain it further:
