Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to post this but I was just wondering do you think real Therapists or Therapists in training read or comment on posts here?
In a way it's nice if they do, some people can't afford or don't have access to therapy.
People are pretty open here and may even share more than they would in one to one therapy... are we guinea pigs lol!
lots of advise and sharing goes on here....just curious are we all just 'normal' people or are there some real therapist, Drs posting..?

anyone can search for these forums and read them as a guest.

your question is quite hard to answer, seeing as therapists could find this site and read it if they wanted too

I don't think their are any actual therapists as members though. I've not come across any.
Thanks for this!

I was studying Psychology (to be a therapist), but I switched majors. I'm in early childhood education now. I do think I'd like a degree in Psychology eventually, if only because I've heard it can be useful when working with children in advancing in that field. I'm fairly certain that, over the years, I've seen other psych students on these boards as well. Whether I have seen therapists/psychiatrists/anyone with at least a bachelor's or master's degree in psychology... I don't recall.

I'm sure they do read the threads sometimes. I'm sure they get curious to know the things their patients might talk about when you remove the face to face interaction (many tend to be more honest online). I know, as a psych nerd, I do. Whether they're active or not, I don't know. Probably? I guess. I'm not sure they'd "out" themselves, but even therapists can have depression, anxiety, etc. Important thing to keep in mind.

We have at least a few therapists or former therapists as PC members. We also have some psych students as members. I'm sure some therapists read the boards, I mean...they're just people.
Thanks for this!

If it helps any my Mom was a very well known psychologist , but she hated computers ! She had one on her desk that she might have turned on when she first got it , her preferred tool was her IBM typewriter .
Many of the people she trained also despised computers , so out of say 600 people I know who work somewhere in the mental health field , there are only about 50 that I know of who utilize a computer in there practice or provide telemedicine services , the majority of the ones I know don't really have time or energy to come here on any kind or regular basis , they may know it exists ...

Although I will say there has been much discussion of what they should do in there practice as far as cell phone, they can be hacked and used remotely without your knowledge, so there is a lot of thought going in to how to keep sessions private when patients come in , most people don't want there most private thoughts violated by anyone , but many people think nothing of having a smartphone with them, that concerns many in the mental health field for obvious reasons .
Thanks for this!

The main pychcentral.come page has that "ask a therapist" feature. Not sure, but I think those guys are actually employed/paid by the site.
