I am plagued by childhood trauma some even ongoing and i am an adult. I have frequent nightmares. This is beginning to affect my memory and my motivations to do anything in life. The only motviation i have is to sleep only these nightmares take a huge toll on me. I cant even eat because i think of knives and knives bring up bad memories. I seem to only be able to recall bad memories but cant remember a few vocabulary words and images for school. What can i do to keep moving foward? Ive tried plenty of distraction hobbies and tools but i quickly shut down.

Any advice would be able to help me. I don't want to live like this i want to be able to live without feeling hollow, fearful, and sometimes really depressed. It piles up really fast.

Hello Thestranger5: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

With regard to your particular concern, the answer here is probably therapy of one sort or another. This may include individual "talk" therapy. Also there is a type of therapy referred to as EMDR. I've never had it. But it's supposedly effective for dealing with past trauma. Here's a link to a website that describes EMDR:

What is EMDR? | EMDR Institute ? EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING THERAPY

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!
