Hi. One of the most impacted places for me to be is at school. I have been sleeping in because I'm so tired. Last night or this morning has been the only exception where I've been having problems staying asleep. I show up to school so tired and during class I feel mindless because all I think about is my depressive thoughts. I write notes down but nothing makes sense. I don't know what is going on. I can't even do school work because I'm so unmotivated. I have been a straight As student since grade 9 and this is final year and I'm scared about my depression ruining my university chances. I am late on only one assignment so far. It's going to be two on Wednesday most likely. I told the school since I have had an IEP since grade 10 and they want to help me try to get better but I don't know how long this is going to be. They want me to see them daily for check ins, see the social worker, and see guidance. I'm just done with this. I wish it was gone. I mainly want to sleep even though I can't fall asleep easily.

Rant above.

Actual question other than rant: how does one do school with depression? This is moderate-severe. I don't know what my doctor wrote down for sure. I'll ask when I see her next. I just know it isn't mild for sure from the screening or questionnaire my doctor made me do.

Thanks.

Hi Nike,
I am sorry you are going through this. Is your general health OK, particularly your blood tests? Perhaps you should discard anything else like anemia or hormones' discrepancy first.
I am telling this because I suffer from depression but once I was too sick and my sickness symptoms got confused with my depression symptoms for some time and that worsened things for me.
In any event, i am pasting a couple of links below that may be of your interest.

I can relate a bit to your struggles. I guess depression can have this effect on people. Does your doctor know about this? If not, you should definitely tell him.

Big hugs

I had the same problem, kinda still do. I am in college now. I had to withdraw from the 4 year university u was attending 3 times, due to depression and suicidal ideation and attempts. I am now at a 2 year college, and taking my last class for my Associate's degree. I stated at the University in 2001, and I am just now getting a degree.

All I can say, really, is keep fighting. There are resources available that can help with stuff like this, at least at the higher education level.

I had days when I didn't feel like going to class, where it was nearly impossible to even get out of bed. Professors do understand, to some extent. Depression is not as uncommon as some other mental illnesses, and people are more able to accept and understand what it does to us.

Just keep in contact with you professionals, and keep moving forward.

Yes, my health is fine, other than high testosterone which I've had for a few years. I've had several hormonal tests run on me (thyroid, cortisol) and they're all normal. Estrogen is good too. I had anemia a few years ago but it's good now. I don't have it anymore.

Thank you and thanks for the links

Yes I told my doctor. I don't know what my doctor said about it. I will ask her the next time I see her, when I need a medicine refill. But I screened moderate depression when she made me do the ICD test or whatever.
