This may seem like a dumb question

I read a post by a fellow dweller in this part of the forest who seems to have more faith in the professionals than I do... I guess probably most have more faith in the professionals than I do

Is it even worth reaching out to professionals... to receive more labels

They ask "what can I do for you"

I can't be "honest" in answering that question... do they really want to know anyway

I've been doing one day at a time for a long time...

(When the professionals talk about the "future" - this is one of the reasons I find them so unhelpful grrrrrrr.. they don't know me for one thing, I so rarely speak to any of them )

PS it's probably my fault for not just asking for meds (and not mentioning anything else) - of course my allergies make this complicated and sub optimal

In my case I wouldn't go as far to say I have faith in the professionals. It's more just that there isn't exactly an alternative.

When I am thinking rationally I am able to see that I need some form of help, and I guess the only way to get that help is with professionals. Or that's the idea anyway. Often though I just get let down and remember why I avoid it most of the time. I guess I eventually get desperate and hope that they will offer something that will actually make a difference.

Each time I get let down though it's harder to try and trust them again. I think I have all but given up on them now.

I wonder if there are any psychoneuroimmunologists in your part of the Forest?

Talking to a professional is a safe way to unload what's inside of you. Plus, they are trained and knowledgeable about many aspects of the mind, so they have a sort of unbiased view on the things you share with them. There's value to that, I think, even if you feel it's unhelpful.

I haven't consulted many pdocs, but I would say they were all much better for psych stuff than the general medicine ones... (I just don't trust any of them any more.. they only really have meds to offer which I can't take )

Some of them do talk a bit.. I'm happy you've had better luck recently with pdocs than before

I've found that they let me down too, and each time it's even harder to reach out and trust them at all

It took a lot of search and research for me to find one GP that is good. I have dealt with many doctors and to me medicine is decaying. It is a huge problem, in fact

yes yes.....many big problems....we now need to be our own doctor and therapist...health care is changed and changing....but we can still help each other....and we can use professionals for possible solutions to our illnesses

The labels, as I have been told many, many times; are more for insurance information than anything else.

It's logical and it makes sense, but even with my T (who's truly amazing and I never thought I'd say that about a T with my experience), I still interpret these "labels" as more harmful than good. Especially if you get hung up on them, they can be damaging.

I'm really not okay, psychologically speaking, but if I didn't have therapy to help guide me through this, I don't want to imagine where I'd end up. It wasn't always like this, though, as I've had bad experiences with professionals and felt so much worse when attending those sessions. I believe my journey to find a T that could actually help was one of the single best things I have ever done for myself. It took a lot, though, but has been worth it, thus far.
