Okay, so ik being suicidal is not normal, but from the relative standpoint of depression, how normal is it to be non-emotionally suicidal. I often mentally respond to every situation that doesn't go perfectly with me imagining killing myself. Sometimes I'll just be sitting down doing nothing particularly exciting, frustrating, or stressful and will just casually think about ending my life. Is this a common experience, or is this oddly different?

It happens to me. Most of my SI comes about in emotional situations but there are times when nothing is happening that I just think about it. So if it's oddly different then we're both in the same boat.

I will play devils advocate here and say that if a persons life is so terrible then feeling suicidal is actually QUITE natural. Life should not be so hard that the only solution you can deduce is to escape it completely. It means that something needs to change or you need help. It means that somewhere along the line, you have not resolved something,....

I think it's quite normal.

If someone is struggling with suicidality, it isn't just one fleeting thought, it remains in the mind and continues to "play out in the mind" until there's a resolution, which, hopefully would be a lift of depression and the suicidality dissipates.

The suicidal thoughts can be very intrusive, meaning the can occur without first consciously pondering them.

Please be safe.

I think it can become a habit, but this happens when one is really going through difficult times where thinking of suicide brings relief in stressful situations/ thoughts. So after some time it becomes a habit and suicidal thoughts might appear anytime.
I mostly have impulsive and intrusive sui thoughts, in emotional overwhelm.
But sometimes even when I'm calm and something reminds me...that's scary.
Thanks for this!

I SI as well and I have the same thing. I just think about it an suddenly I can't get rid of the urge I didn't really make the connection between the two though and I see it. I also think I'm really impulsive, so that's what scares me the most--knowing I would probably struggle to restrain myself if an opportunity was presented

I'm not sure my life is that horrible event-wise, just mentally straining. I also may be brushing off most of how bad my mental illness is and that may be encouraging my suicidalness

ok so it probably means you need to look at the therapy side of things or medication. Because of course MI can cause low mood no matter what you do. I am glad you are working things out...
