I was wondering if any of y'all have found good ways to cope when overwhelmed by uncomfortable feelings (depression, anxiety, panic, fear, grief, whatever).
I've got lots of tricks up my sleeve to help prevent myself from getting to that place (exercise, sleep, healthy eating, yoga, distraction, etc.) but once a negative emotion sets in the only thing that can pull me out of the abyss is going to sleep and hoping that it's gone when I wake up. I've tried some grounding exercises (e.g. naming things you can see/smell/taste/etc.) but haven't hit on any that do the trick. Anyone have a good one they'd be willing to share? |

It's difficult when those feelings come along. Now that I've gotten older, those feelings seem to come along a lot more. It's mostly health anxiety. Especially when something happened to me that was unexpected and the health issue is to be taken seriously. Perhaps as I get older and life is not better than now (in my social life now, improvements are needed), then I may not care as much.
I exercise either by bike riding or walking. Having idle time is what kills me. Having a good talk with my friend helps a lot. But it seems like he does not understand how I'm feeling and he doesn't have anxiety at all. |

I'm with you. After I try all my coping techniques I have to take my sleep medicine and sleep it off. Sending big hugs.
