Hi everyone
![]() I'm new this site. I'm actually an anorexia survivor. When I had anorexia I promised myself that if God ever gave me the ability to get through it, I'd help others who were going through what I had been going through. God is amazing, I tell you. If I got over my mental disease, ANYONE can. Anyway... When I was going through anorexia, I was living with my Dad. He was diagnosed with depression about a year before I was diagnosed with anorexia. I never understood his condition until I lived a mental disease myself. Your children might not understand what you're going through. They might be embarassed by you, frustrated with you and may even hate you every now and then. But it's NOT YOUR FAULT. Trust me. It's NOT YOUR FAULT. Also trust this- your children love you more than anything in the whole world, NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY OR HOW THEY ACT. Your children are frustrated that they can't do anything to make things better for you. Again, it's ok. They might not understand now, but when they're older, and the get to know more and more people with the disease, and start to realize that mental disease isn't as uncommon as they once thought (perhaps some will even live it themselves), they WILL understand. There is a reason for everything. The reason YOU might be living with this disease NOW is because you might have to be there to help your child if/when they go through it themselves in the future. Don't dispair. They love you more than anything in the world. I can promise you this. I just wanted all you parents to know that. From a daughter who has been there. By the way- both me AND my dad have healed. It took a long time, even longer for my dad, but we both got through it. Trust me, you can too. No matter how long you've been living with it. |
