how important is it that when you die, you are actually remembered.
for me, it's a big thing- a really big thing despite doing nothing with my life (and barely having any support from family and friends), I just... well, don't want to be forgotten and I feel I will be |

I agree about Lady Diana. You've made a good point.

Hm. I completely understand the desire to be remembered, or to leave a legacy, but I'm weirdly okay with being forgotten. Ideally, I'd like the things I say and do to have a positive impact on people, so in that way I do want to leave a legacy, but I don't really care if I personally am remembered or not, so long as the memory of me isn't painful for anyone, and the people I care about are happy.

Well, I suppose in the long-term, everyone shall be forgotten eventually. After all, the lifespan of the earth itself is finite, and likewise, so is humanity. However, so long as humanity is alive, then no individual shall be absolutely forgotten. Every individual leaves their mark on this earth in some form or fashion, so even if that mark is not remembered under one's face or name, their impact shall remain nevertheless.

I don't mind being forgotten. Even in life, before death, I would like to be a hermit if things don't work out, if I don't get really famous for something. Honestly, I already feel forgotten.
But, that is only what I wish. People recognize me here at school, both professors and students. It's unnerving. Though I do have a job that puts me in contact with a lot of people. I think our perceptions of how we are remembered (in life or death) could be skewed. I don't think anyone is really forgotten by the people they have met. Whether that memory is a correct summary of you is a different story.... |
