Hi all,

This issue has been bothering me ever since I last quit my 3 1/2 year job. I have never been able to sustain a new job for more than 1,2 days, and I blown numerous job opportunities as a result.

Its like whenever I start a new job, I will have flashbacks of the moments where I got scolded and ridiculed for screwing up simple things, then keep dreading and then on the actual work day, I felt extremely anxious, depressed and unable to focus.
I have problems learning and getting accustomed to new things as well.

There was a period where I felt so depressed at work cause I couldn't absorb what was taught to me, so much that I started to attempt suicide because I seriously think that I'm an useless imbecile who couldn't understand simple things like other colleagues.

My psychologist didnt address this issue with me and I feel like I can't work any jobs because of this.

Anyway i'm not sure if this is the right place to post. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Hugs from:

Hi there,

It sounds like therapy would be very helpful for you in dealing with this issue.

If you have tried numerous jobs though and have not been able to keep them, it may be worth considering applying for social assistance. Being unable to absorb new information can definitely come along with depression and it is frustrating to deal with. Do you receive any psychiatric or therapeutic treatment at the moment for your struggles? If not, it wouldn't be a bad time to start. I also find that regular exercise and meditation helps to clear my mind and allow me to better absorb new information.

It may also be helpful to look at these past jobs that you were not able to keep...what type of jobs were they? Maybe you just haven't found the right match for yourself. A personal example is that I can't work in the food industry, restaurants or fast food, because it is too busy and stressful. However, I feel much more at home at my current job of doing aisle maintenance and stocking items, because it is mostly a solitary job where you can go at your own pace.
Thanks for this!

Why didn't your psychologist adress this? Did you never talk about this to him or did he just ignore it?

Yes, I've been on psychiatric treatment for those issues. I also attend psychotherapy once every month or more, and I requested my psychologist to increase the frequency of my appointments. But the thing is she's got a lot of clients and most likely will not be able to see me until 1 1/2 month later.
So far the meds help a little, as i've been taking them regularly.

I just recently take up a part time job at a convenience store doing retail which was introduced by my occupational therapist...gonna start work next week. She knows that I couldn't handle customer service, cashiering related work since I have social anxiety, so hopefully I can be excused from those duties.

By the way thanks for your suggestion. Maybe I will start some exercise soon once I got into the mood.

I raised this issue up and we had a little talk abt it, but after a short while we moved onto other topics. Towards the end, she said she would address this issue in the coming session which is 1 1/2 months later. Kinda long though...

Hello there,

I was first having impairments and mood swings. I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder and depression too. Later I was correctly diagnosed with bipolar one. Read the article below. I’m not saying you have bipolar.
I think this will let you know your not a lone.
