Doesn't have to be permanent. Maybe you just need a profound rest. I was having a medical problem this summer and walked away from my grad school one morning; deleted everythign on my computer and withdrew from my classes. Rest! It/something will come back and you'll be revitalized.

My favorite story is my changing majors in college in 1971 and graduating with a different degree in 1972 than I had decided I wanted in 1966. In 2001 I was thinking about my life and pretending I was 85 and looking back on my life (from 2035 :-) and asked myself what I would "regret". I wondered what happened to my first love, the subject I turned away from in 1971! I just got my second BA this May in that subject :-) 35+ years later.

Look at some other things, try out whole bunches of options; writing, art, crafts, computers, "thinking", etc. I use to read the yellow pages :-) and leaf through imagining what life would be like if I were a ______________ and looking for occupations/ideas I'd never heard of/had before. Think of things you don't like and figure out why or try them anyway to see if they're "empty" prejudices. There are lots of things I "decide" I don't like but I have never really looked at, studied, done, eaten, etc. them so how can I know???? Eat something you think you don't like and know for sure why you don't like it :-) Lots of stuff is left over from when we're kids or from what our friends or family did/didn't like. My absolute favorite "game" is going into a grocery store and looking for/buying ONE thing just for me, the one thing in the grocery store I want at that moment. I found some really good, different candy one day that way, stashed in the corner of the candy aisle where they were hard to spot because they weren't a big, known brand of anything usual.

Hi DrummerGirl,

I've had a similar experience too. One of the signs of significant depression is not being interested or enjoying things you once did.

Try not to be too hard on yourself...

You gave me a lot to think about here - I find myself not being proud of the little things , or forgetting them -- I have Answered over 15000 questions on Question and Answer Sites and should be giving myself a pat on the back - I have only used a computer for less than a year - So those are some things I should be proud of , just can't let myself do that for some reason -
And I'm proud of your accomplishments Perna

Thank You so much , if I could just let it sink in - Hugs sent your way - I would love for you to respond back when you can .
