Hi, I was on antidepressant for the past 8 days but now I'm running out of med. I took Brintellix. Yesterday I stopped taking my med because I'm running out of it. I have no time to consult to my psychiatrist. Is it okay to stop taking it for a while? Because I may have no time at all to go there and get any further prescription. Also, I think the depression is under control while I'm on med and recently worsening.. I don't know because I'm not taking the med or it's caused by a recent life-stressing event happened just last night.

You need to ask your doctor. My feeling is that stopping your meds is not a good idea. Good luck.

Not sure I understand how this works, so you'll forgive me - can't you simply buy more meds?

From my past experience quitting meds is very hard mentally and emotionally. I hope it works for you. Every person is different.

It's not bad withdrawal after only 8 days. Yoir feeling of depression was not likely improved by that short amount of time on it. You can always quit them and change your mind about taking them again later. Best wishes

If you quit you have to build up the level again in your bloodstream and who knows how long that will take. I did this with vraylar and it took very long to build it back up.

Why can't the pdoc call in a prescription for you?
Have you changed your mind about treatment? You will probably be okay; yet, it's always a good idea to let your pdoc know about any changes in meds prescribed. Be safe! ![]() ![]() WC

I would check with the doc if you have any issues. A while back I started taking Viibryd; after about two weeks it started making me physically sick. So I stopped it of my own accord and soon went through horrible withdrawal. Kind of reminded me of movies and shows where they show an addict trying to get off a drug. Headaches, sweating, shivering, sleep problems. Almost a decade later it is still fresh in my mind.
