All my life I was told you had to have a reason to be sad/depressed and to be suicidal.

Why are you suicidal? Because I am depressed.
Why are you depressed? Because I am suicidal.
No you have to have a reason to be that way.

I don't have a reason. It's just an endless cycle. I don't know why I'm so messed up. I was never abused as a child, physically, sexually, or otherwise. I don't have a reason so I am obviously just faking it.

You're not faking it, it's real to you. Just like environment can cause depression, so can chemical imbalances. There can also be a vast amount of factors.

Sometimes there’s a “spiritual door” that’s been opened; through movies, books, music, or TV one can be influenced by a wicked spirit such as depression, suicide, or other such spirits of destruction.

I don’t think your faking it, spirits do exist and can influence people.

Please know your not alone in the struggle for freedom of mind. I'm obviously faking it.

Well, if you were faking, you could just decide to quit faking it.
Sometimes, depression is not related to live events. It's biochemical.
You are not faking. This is real and need to be treated as such.

I am sorry you are depressed.

I get depressed because I'm bipolar. It's just the way my brain works. I have an amazing life and spent 2 years depressed. People have to understand that sometimes it just happens.

Sadly a lot of people only accept a mental disorder after it's been diagnosed.
(And then there's those who don't even accept it when you wave your diagnosis paper in their face...saying stuff like "There's no such thing as depression, you're just playing your mind" - My father...)

Do you think a diagnosis would help you accept your illness?

It sucks to feel like not a reason behind it, nothing than can be "fixed" to set things right again. I feel like I don't have an excuse either, but it's not faking just because you can't point to something and say, "That's the reason." It's real, and I hope you're able to find something to help.

No. I have already been diagnosed & I still feel like I should have a reason to feel this way. People who have been abused and or traumatized and are depressed I understand why they are depressed but that is not the case with me.

Even after it's been diagnosed, there's still some people out there who don't believe it exists, there's some in my family like that.

I have family that ask why are you depressed? They say I have nothing to be depressed about. I try to explain I have no reason I just am. Then they say I need to pick myself up. Some people will never get it. Best wishes!!

Oh dear I’d say that’s a fairly typical unhelpful response from clueless people .. most here have more emotional intelligence than that

Many folks only understand the true nature/cavernous pit of depression, once they've personally experienced it themselves.

My doctor says i am this way because the load got too heavy or my shoulders got too weak. Either way there is no 'fault' so my quest is peace, however, wherever and for how ever long i can find it. i think he's right. but it's so hard. most days i just want to hide in the dark.

I can relate to everything you wrote. I don't have a good reason either.
