Actually may I have been depressed for well over 9 years now and I would try and do things to keep me from feeling "BLUE" The only problem is I was masking it with being busy and stressed, the stress then led to anger. That is what I was trying to get help for when my depression hit me full force. I was hospitalized for three days when I was diagnosed Major Depressive Disorder. So I guess what I am trying to say is do not try and mask your depression with something else because it will only make it worse. I made so many exscuses for my anger and it was not until I was honest with myself that I realized what was going on and who I really was. I feel so much better about my self and I am not depressed like I used to, still get emotional sometimes. It has really helped me to find this group and the support of my family as well. Things will get better, this to shall pass.

when my stress and anxiety levels go up so does the volume on my depression. for me i think they are hand in hand with one another.

i hope things ease up for you soon.

I completely agree with recluse.... the same thing happens when i get upset (angry). At first i'm just mad, mostly for "no reason" and then it spirals into a depressive state. So no. You are not crazy for feeling like that. Not by any means...

I have mostly anxiety and when it goes up then any penchant I have for depression goes up too, so the "opposite" would work also I would think.

You are not crazy. There are stress activated pathways in our brains. Stress activates production of certain proteins that affect mood. So what you are experiencing is actually "normal" and the way our brains are designed. Some of these molecules stimulated by stress have very long half lives. I learned just recently that one of them has a half life of 6 weeks! So that is why stressful events, such as death in the family, divorce, failing in school, not getting along with a dear friend, etc. can have long ranging effects, and result in changes in mood that last long after the events themselves are gone. One thing you can do to help is try to lessen the stress in your life. But the effect on depression will not be immediate. Hang in there.
