hi.

I was wondering if anyone else on this forum get triggered by showers for what ever reason.

for me I have body issues, and in sted of making me feel refreshed, it triggers a lot of feelings of depression and sadness

- I hate my body, and I can't believe I'm standing their naked displaying it

- the water makes me feel disgusting and unclean

- I don't deserve to shower because I don't take care of the rest of my body, why should I do this?

- the wetness of the water is a nasty feeling

so to those of you who have these thoughts in the shower, and to those of you who have this depression caused by showering, how do you distract yourself and focus on other things
Thanks for this!

Not trying to sound absurd or anything but have you ever tried getting a mud bath? This could have a reversal effect on you, making you vividly remember the relaxation of cleaning our bodies.

But I relate kinda. When I'm depressed, I'm known to avoid proper hygiene like simply bathing.

Before I was admitted to hospital, I went one whole year without talking a shower, only using wet wipes like a homeless person. Clinically depressed.

And nobody knew because of my deodorant.

I would have taken that to the grave, never telling a soul.

Ps: I take regular showers now.

It might help to make your bathroom or shower area an attractive cozy place. Use shampoo and soap or body wash with pleasant aromas. Maybe use a few candles (they have battery operated ones too). Play your favorite music. Pamper yourself. Get the more expensive shampoo or soap. Get your favorite color towels and cloths.

No one is looking, so no need to be ashamed. Find something positive about your body and appreciate it. I don't know your body size or shape, but you seem to be a really sweet and loving person and that matters much more than your physical looks.

My problem with showering is that I'm all alone with my thoughts. Some mornings I'm doing okay until I get in the shower and then my thoughts start going round and round.... I had the idea of getting a waterproof speaker to put in my bathroom so I could listen to music in the shower as a distraction.
