Hi everyone,
This forum is pretty quiet at the moment. The thought I’m having here is sort of a continuation of “as is” .. I was going to put something here, not sure what, to improve my communication.. so maybe imagine a teddy bear.. or a safe place. ![]() And now I’m reminded of a therapist (irl) who just said ...... uh .. I’m not going to share that ![]() Several times, or more than several times, mostly irl, I’ve taken a risk and opened up somewhat. And the response I received was .. well.. not super validating of me. I don’t really understand where people are coming from with this sort of response, other than a place of being self absorbed and maybe even wanting to lash out or put someone down to make themselves feel better. I’m very familiar with this as it was what I “received” mostly when I was growing up. ![]() Thanks to all the supportive people here who realise that accepting others as is helps to make the world just a bit better and kinder. And it also helps us. At least it helps me when I’m kind to a friend, or even to someone I don’t know. It isn’t my intention to make this post a “lecture” ... also I don’t think anyone is “inadequate” for not having “got over” trauma. Or depression .. or .. A post I read somewhere made me think of this, (someone was blaming themselves ![]() ![]() Hugs to all ![]() ![]()

I find that the people who do suffer/cope with depression are truly the only ones who "get us" and know how to listen to us. There are a lot of people with depression who are hiding out there and I've been surprised to find them when I do take a risk and say something to them. Yes, there will be those who don't and perhaps can't respond to us in helpful ways, but I find it best to accept that's who they are. And, I also hold hope that they might decide (on their own timetable) to learn a little about depression and become more understanding and accepting of it.
