I’ve been asking myself this question (again)

How to get “support” and a useful referral from a GP... and not labels (usually wrong ) “hate” and / or indifference.

They ask “what can I do for you”

But they don’t listen (they don’t have time, even if they wanted to. And I’m an intelligent bear and have tried different approaches..

I suppose I could say something like..

I want to talk to someone about some psych issues. I want to talk to someone with the time, ability and interest in listening.

Not optimistic

I don’t need to be told I am wrong. I wish I was wrong..then I wouldn’t have found this same crap over many years.

In their “defence” I do have physical crap too. And they seem to only have the ability to “help” with one issue.

I do not wish to make multiple appointments. 10 minutes... useless to me
I guess I “should” be grateful

I’ll probably continue avoiding them. I always feel worse after consulting them (which is almost never since they have “taught” me well

I probably will phone that help line instead. They don’t bite and make wrong assumptions. (For no “good” reason).. They have more than 11 seconds to make a “diagnosis”

Bureaucratic and "cultural" constraints...

In a system built to help "the 85%" (I'm making up the percentage; substitute "majority" if you prefer), it can be an overwhelming challenge to be among "the 15%".

There are good ones out there.... it's about trial and error. Sadly you can't really know if they are a good match for you until you try things with them.

Do you have other supports in friends or family as well? That;s always good to have to get you through tough times too

Here in the UK if your going to be mentally unwell, we have to be able to cure ourselves.

Especially if you can't take the meds.

Anyway surely we all know that CBT is the answer to all depressive disorders!

If they don't work that just leaves awkward people/bears that some how just love to be mentally unwell....

My protests to the above have also made me feel that the NHS is no help to us but in fact adds more trauma...
