I find this thread sad, fascinating, and so true. The "inner snake" being discussed here has been given lots of different names and designations over the centuries... A recent book (and kind of a good one, I think) about it is called "Taming Your Gremlin" by Rick Carson.
Personally I've tried lots of approaches with mine. First I tried to talk back to it (recommended by a therapist). This did not work because it is stronger and more wily than me. Next I thought maybe I could eradicate it for good -- now no longer believe that's possible. My current M.O. is to allow it to bleat on softly in the background while I go about whatever task it's telling me I won't be able to do. It's usually still bleating the same B/S long after I've finished the task!  Love and best wishes to all.

My inner snake lost control yesterday
She spat out her emotion Without a thought for the shame it has caused me today... She was being cruel to me She wanted me to delete... Now I am very tired of it all...
