I might have mentioned this person before

I avoided consulting a doctor re my severe anxiety, panic attacks, etc for a long time...

Having been thoroughly indoctrinated with the (grrrrr) “British stiff upper lip” or so called “strength” of denying medical issues and psych issues

Oh the horror of it. Oh the “weakness” to ask for help.

Lies lies lies

But pernicious sticky lies

When I did eventually consult a doctor I was greeted, straight into the “arms” of a public “health” system and a mass of wrong, stigmatising labels and judgments.. based on one conversation where I was deliberately misunderstood...

And so began, in Dorothy Rowes words .. my “career as a psych patient”

That was not what I intended. I went in hope, I went for help or just a bit of support..... I very rarely consulted doctors

This is not intended as “doctor bashing” as I have great respect for the good doctors out there who genuinely do their best for their patients.

With respect,
Fuzzy

British system seams the worst.
Wish you could have access to a good doctor. Maybe a CBT specialist?

Dorothy Rowe's words ring true
"A career as a psych patient"

Day one they listen, prescribe and refer for CBT
After a while they grow tired of our visits
We are labeled as not trying hard enough....
Or "those kind of people"

My GP has good and bad days
Sometimes he gets it
Others he is way off the mark
His tools to repair me are lacking
I think they grow tired of not being able to cure

I am a serial patient....
Something else to be unsuccessful at.....

The NHS has no time for us
No money for real treatments
No support for our ongoing struggles

Much love to everyone in this career

I’m now both a “long term” and “very avoidant patient” - I very very rarely consult them. As you said, something else to be “unsuccessful” at

I was probably labelled as “those kind of people” as I had already had anxiety for “too long” Although the original labelling GP decided it was recent (well no.. )

It’s so confusing.

Much love

I did not realise when I first sought help I was entering a career as a psych patient. But, yes, that is what I became.

So many different questions and issues are bound up in this subject in my mind.
