I’m really scared now. I’ve been really struggling recently, and have been suicidal. I’m avoiding going inpatient at all costs bc I have a sick family member to care for. Today when I saw my pdoc he said you do know I can hospitalize you against your will. I got chills thinking about it. I just can’t go into the hospital. . I’m thinking about cutting off all contact with my pdoc and therapist. If he were to commit me what would happen? Would they call an ambulance, keep me indefinitely? I’m scared.

If you are in the states he couldn't keep you longer than 72 hours. He's not thinking of your responsibility he thinking if you plan to check out of life the hospital is the better option. Can't you contracts to stay safe from one session to the next? Obviously you are presenting yourself as very unstable and not promising to stay safe. Maybe a stay in the hospital is just what you need to get that extra support. He is only thinking of keeping you safe.

If he declares you a danger to self or others, he can have you placed on a hold without your approval. A judge then would determine in a hearing whether you meet criteria for civil commitment. Every state is different. I have had two hearings before and I lost both. As I should have.
Sometimes, however inconvenient it may be, we just need to go to the hospital for a little while. I am not a fan of it either, but I do admit I have needed it at times. Maybe you should consider that going for a short visit might benefit you. Sending you strength and support!!! You can do this!!!!!!!
