Today has been very stressful. I couldn't sleep last night and my thoughts bothered me. I was worrying about everything. Today I feel lost and hopeless. Like nothing's going to get better. I'm not sure what to do. I've looked up coping skills online. They recommend calling someone to talk. I guess I could call my sister A. But I'm afraid to tell her how I'm feeling. I don't want to be judged.

I don't know... maybe just being able to talk about anything will help. I thought I would try to distract myself at home. But I'm running into road blocks. That only makes the hopelessness worse. I wanted to cook today, but now I'm too depressed. Just not sure what to do. Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

I tried talking to my sister A. She didn't really understand. It made me feel like I'm odd. She didn't have a lot of time to talk and she was just like, "distract yourself." Sometimes, it's not that easy.

I'm so sorry you're struggling and I didn't see this until now. I understand the feeling of your sister making you feel odd. I get that way sometimes with my own.

I do feel like talking it out helps a lot. Have you considered the emotional support chat on this forum itself? it has helped me a number of times and there's almost always (or always probably) someone there.

when I get this way, I just nap. I mean, when it gets that bad. Or I'll watch tv or a good movie, if I can't get on the forums that is. *hugs

Thank you! I haven't consider the online chat here. Thanks for suggesting it. Yes, naps help me too. Yesterday, I ended up reading some of my crime novel, which helped me.

Today I feel better. I went to bed early. My plan for the day is to try to stay busy with cooking and reading.

Yeah, the chat is great. I just left it actually. Yeah, it's about bedtime for me, but maybe I'll see you around there sometime!

Glad you're feeling better. I'm going to do a little light walk now and then hopefully sleep (a tiny bit earlier than that of late). I'll probably have to check for a response tomorrow, but is it daytime where you are now??? If so, have a great day!

It's the middle of the night. I just woke up a little while ago. I'll be up for a few hours then go back to bed. I hope you have a good evening.

Thanks! Yes, I was able to get some sleep. I think it helped me. I'm doing much better today. I watched a comedy this afternoon. It helped distract me. I might watch another one.

It's Sunday afternoon. I'm starting to feel hopeless again. I spent some time looking for events during the day. There's nothing I can go to. If I wanted to leave my house for a change, there's no where to go.

I’m sorry you are struggling. I don’t have any words of advice but I believe this is temporary and you will feel better. I’m sorry I don’t know what to say but I’m here for you if you need to talk and to support you. Someone once advised me to ask “What is NOT going wrong right now?” It has helped me. I hope it helps you.

Is everything around you closed on Sundays? It can feel lonely staying home alone. I hope you can find something to do tomorrow.

Thank you! I guess I can think of the question as, "What is going right?" It's hard for me to think of "what is not going wrong." I guess one thing that is good is that I got fresh air today. The weather was warmer. And I was able to take care of some chores. The cats are doing well and I'm enjoying my book. And finally, my games are fun. I guess those are the good things. Thinking of that helps put things in perspective.

Sunday's tend to be hard for me. Usually I'm at home alone. I've been looking for things I can do for years. Nothing ever works out. My problem is that I don't like going out at night and most events happen in the evening. I'm usually in bed by 5 pm.

Once again I'm just seeing this. Sorry it started up again. I don't know where I read it, but the forums tend to ebb and flow with activity. Less active Friday and Saturday and then folks slowly return on Sunday...but you're talking about in real life huh? I seem to recall folks being busy on Sundays because of sports viewing. Perhaps you can invite people over to watch and then you'll have company. I dunno. Can I ask, are you single by chance or do you live with someone? You don't have to answer, but believe me, I know that even when you do live with someone you can still get bored or restless or lonely.

Wow! You go to bed at 5pm?! Well, if you're up earlier, perhaps another thing you could do is to plan your grocery shopping (or any shopping really) for Sunday's when you're bored. I find just getting out in public helpful, even if you don't talk or talk much with anyone. Just a thought!

I don't mind... I'm single. I live alone with my two cats. I do have family. I've tried to invite them over. They always come up with excuses as to why they can't. So I quit asking. My mom says I can visit her. But it's hard for me to do that. I only leave my house once a week, and that's strictly for medical appointments. I have an appointment this Wednesday. After that I will recover the rest of the week. Going places is just difficult.

Yes, I went to bed about 5:30 last night. But I'm up early now. I'm thinking of ordering stuff to make a burger today. That has me sort of excited.

You don’t have to say, but ask yourself what you feel hopeless about. What are you hoping for? Can you achieve it? What is stopping you? What would it take?

You are isolated and have unusual sleeping patterns. These are symptoms of depression, as I’m sure you know.

Yes, it would be good to journal about my feelings of hopelessness. I try to journal as much as I can. Some feelings I ignore because they're too painful. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, I'm sorry if you've already mentioned the fact that you stopped asking folks to visit because they always make excuses. But I seem to recall other folks having this same issue, so you're not alone in that anyway. Still sucks though.
And I completely understand it being difficult going out to visit others. I mean, I don't know your full circumstances, but I know that even if I don't have a severe physical handicap, I still have several mental obstacles to go over before I go out...for instance, what to wear. Winter can be easier if I don't have to take my coat off, for I can pretty much just cover everything up and not care how it looks or if it even matches. Lol

But I guess I don't really have much to add in terms of advice, but I'll second the notion that you should question what you're feeling hopeless about. Maybe even share those with a therapist or trusted friend who might be able to help you overcome them.
Best

Thanks! It was difficult to journal about so I stopped. I did let my therapist know. She suggested that I approach it from the stand point of a friend. Write what I would tell a friend if they were feeling hopeless. It worked. I was able to proceed with my journaling!
