I have struggled with depression for some time., having grown up in an abusive home. I always felt I was able to deal with my depression through exercise (I am an avid runner), but even that does not seem to be enough at this point. I recently lost a great job with great pay (downsizing)and am having difficulty finding a comparable position. I am divorced, and have removed myself from family in order to protect myself. My friends (all with families of their own) seem to be "good time" friends. With no work, no family the holidays have been extremely difficult. With no work, I can not afford therapy so it is my hope I will be able to keep my depression in check by relating to others who are struggling.

PS. have you tried to jumble up the exercise routine? maybe try weights. when im down. weights help get out the excess anger i have inside. think about it ok?

Nowheretoturn, you might like to read The Runner, by Cynthia Voigt. It's one of my favorite books, always makes me want to run and I'm not a runner :-) but is very serious, dealing with abuse and depression and figuring "It" all out. It doesn't have a happy ending though!

Nowheretoturn, welcome to PC. I'm glad you found us here.

You may want to look into therapists with sliding fee scales. In some areas there's also government assistance for therapy.

I'm glad you're here.

Let me be the first frog of little brain to welcome you home.

I think you will find PC to be like a piece of chocolate to a woman at "that time" of the month, up lifting and comforting. Most here have been through the hopelessness and desperation you are now feeling at some point in our life. Some of us are even in a repeat performance.

You will find friends here who sit next to you with their hand on your shoulder during the good times and not so good times. True friends who understand.
